I think that there ought to be a paper trail. Sure fraud and problems can occur, but electronic records can be lost in a keystroke.

How about paper AND electronic. They would complement each other. The electronic tallys could verify the intent of the chad makers, and the paper could serve as a permanent record in case the electronic "disappeared."

I voted a qualified yes. There are obviously some issues with a lot of the new systems right now. I agree that their should be a paper trail as well. With that siad, having watched the travesty of the last Presidential election here in Florida they are way overdue. :-)

Yeh...the only reason i started this topic was because i heard about the Diebold electronic voting machines/software and how vulnerable they were to hacking. To tell you the truth i am skeptical of buying stuff over the internet so voting electronically (although not technically the internet) is almost out of the question.

Electronic voting makes more sense. It is a much better form of voting for the 21st century, compared to punch card ballots and the "really old" lever system.

There haven't been major problems with voting this way in the states and precincts they are being used in.

JQ, so if and when your local voting location has electronic voting and you really want to vote, you won't because of not feeling confident enough about the new voting machine?

Tom,

In Wake county where i live. We vote like this

JQ Public ---->LARGE SPACE<-------JQ Public
joe schmoe-->LARGE SPACE<-------joe schmoe

lol sorry it won't let me write a space in btw.

Then all we do is take a black marker and connect the two arrows. Like this

JQ Public ---->----------<-------JQ Public

Its really easy. Then we send it thru a scanner that can read the line i wrote. Much better than a chad b/c there is no hanging markers etc...no levers. I know there hasn't been problems yet with electronic voting, but lets face it...there hasn't been a presidential election since some of these new voting machines have been added...so i doubt someone would want to skew a vote on congress as opposed to a presidential election.

Where i live it is a very touchy issue, where almost half favor it and half don't. I would say more don't though. Coriolis said before me...i would like to see a paper trail.

As for not voting...i don't think anything will stop me from voting, but i would excercise my right as a citizen to get my views heard...and try and keep the way in which we vote.

Lol!! Coriolis...so funny. I guess i'm a little bit of a hypocrite for doing a poll online for this subject ;). But who knows?! Marshall seems really sketchy sometimes...who knows...he might have skewed it!!!!!!!! ;) ;) jk jk jk!!

The machine that takes the ballots is basically electronically getting the information from the voter... those machines can malfunction which will create a problem with the vote totals, too.

As for making spaces in a post use the   '& n b s p ; code' for half-spaces.....

Like this.....
