A Black Funk

#1 Postby Pburgh » Wed Mar 17, 2004 7:44 pm

Have any of you ever been in the "Black Funk"????

Well, that's how I feel. I'm not one to express my personal emotions too often, but this will be one of the few exceptions. I have faith in Storm2K.

I think I'm getting depressed. Now I don't know if it's the weather or personal issues that are re-appearing, but emotionally I feel like crap!!! I want to sleep alot and am ready for any confrontation!!!

I'm sure all of you have felt this way at one time or another and I feel rather selfish because others have so many more problems that they don't know how to handle. At my age, I should have learned to handle just about everything!!!

I just need some emotional support at this time and I guess I'm asking you for that. I try to listen and read everyone's posts and hope I am always there for those in need. I guess I'm asking for you to read mine and help.

I love the new emoticons and mine would be

Pburg,
I know how you feel. I was diagnosed with depression a little over a year ago. Some days are good, but there are other days that I stay tired and want to sleep all the time. I don't wanna get out of the house, dont' wanna see anyone or talk to anyone.
If I can help you any way, let me know!

Been there done that. I guess in times like this we have to look at the good and concentrate less on the bad. I know at this point this may seem like the last thing you want to hear. But.. It's the truth. The only way to get over depression is to let whatever it is that is troubling you get futher from your mind..than Kerry in his underwear  *trying to cheer you up* Seriously though. If you need to talk pm me. ((((HUGS))))))))

Karan - you are always so quick to lend support to others, your posts are so thoughtful and helpful. I know you've been an inspiration to me! That said, I'm sure it is hard to know where to start or to ask for help. Even if it's just prayers, well wishes, suggestions from us. I do know I get down at times, but not like you've described. Hopefully you'll have others come forward with more excellent advice. Just know that I am praying for you right now and wishing you well.

Hugs

Mary

As Miss Mary said and others, you ARE always there for everyone else. They say that if you are in a depressed mood for two weeks or more to see your doctor. It could be the weather, I know I feel worse during the winter.

Your comment "at my age, I should be able to handle everything" is WRONG. If anything, that's creating more stress on you. What I find helps me is to think of what might be bothering me the most at that time and figure out why. Then I think about what it is I can/cannot do about the situation and then accept it (or try to). Sometimes it's nothing that you can put your finger on and you may need additional help.

{{{HUGS}}} to you my friend! Please feel free to pm me and keep us up to date on how you're doing!

Hey Karan, ole buddy! Nothing like a good dose of your friends @ S2K to cheer you up. Getting in a funk happens to the best of us. Go get a case of Iron City and have one for me! I know that this late snow is depressing, but it won't stay around long. Mr. Sun is getting stronger every day. If you need to talk just let it fly. You're a rock around here. Time for us to return the favor!

Karan.....we go back a long way my friend.....and have shared shoulders in the past. Please know I'm sending good vibes your way this moment!

I wonder if the weather has something to do with this. I've been feelin' some of those "funky-don't-wanna-do-nothin" things lately too! Today was the 2nd day I stayed curled up on the couch.......not really sick.....but not really excited to go face the day either!

Here's a giant >>H-U-G<< for you!......p

Karan, you can see by all of the posts that we
love 'ya, gal!

Stephanie said:
"They say that if you are in a depressed mood for two weeks or more to see your doctor."

Steph's right.

We want to blame it on the weather,
but, in your initial post, you said that "personal
issues were re-appearing", also. Make an
appointment with your primary doctor, and,
tell she/he what you feel. Don't ignore feelings
or symptoms that you know aren't "usual" for
you. I've done the depression "gig"...don't let
it creep up and swallow you without telling
your doc, ok?

{{{{BIG 'OLE BEAR HUGS!!!}}}}

Take care of YOU, ok? ;)

Karan, you've ALWAYS been there for me...I mean, look at your phone bill for heavens sake "LOL!"

Seriously, you KNOW I'm here for you and like you said to me the other night, "I'll get my @$$ on a plane and come out there!" WELL....same goes for me, I'd be there in a HEART BEAT if need be! We've shared a LOT together, you know as much about me as Michell does (well, ALMOST).

You take care of yourself and do me a favor, stay OFF the D@#$ computer so'ns I can call you....Michelle's leaving in the morning for "4 DAYS!"....she's going to San Diego for her/our National Certification, so expect a phone call!

*sending a big (((((HUG))))) your way*

Karan, we're here for ya just like you've always been here for us. :)

My best advice (in addition to ditto-ing all the above) -- keep the lines of communication open...with someone...anyone. Whatever you do, don't get into such a funk that you fall into the trap of "living between your ears" where all you do is think to yourself and replay negatives over and over in your mind. It can be extremely dangerous.

At MY age, black funk shouldn't happen either! But Kathy will tell you I am now living in the desert because of my last bout with it!

I may be defined by some as the "sage" of Storm2k. Mr. Steadfast. Old Reliable.

Truth is, I have had my share of trials, tribulations, and dark hours, weeks, and months. In 1967, 70,72, 84, 88, and 97 among others! I have my bouts with lonely hours even among friends, sadness amid the happiest people, and darkness on the sunniest days.

You, my friend, have so much to give, so much to feel good about, and so many good GOOD people who believe in you. It matters not that some are in distant places. We are real people who REALLY care and want the best for you.

When I've found myself in those situations I first see my medical doctor...to get assurances that I really AM OK. Once I pass that hurdle, I find something to grab on to that holds my hand along the ways of life. It can be family, friends, a new challenge, or a simple move away from the rut....an attempt to do something different in my life.

Like I said, Kathy believes I am in Phoenix because I was in a "black funk" back in 1997. Maybe she's right. More important, though, is not what I did and where I am, but that I was able to do something positive to get myself back on track.

So Karan...grab on to something, someone, even a little ray of sunshine, and let it pull you to a different place.

We have SO much confidence in you. You surely can muster some of your own right now. It is your turn for attention....and you have ours...a WHOLE LOT of it.

...and of course, those beautiful grandkids of yours. Aren't they just God's greatest gift to grandparents?

Lean if need be by PM or otherwise....

With hope for a brighter tomorrow,
Poppysky and Emma

Karan/Pburgh,

I'm relatively free of the "black funk" (i.e., deep depression), but I still have occasional bouts with "situational" depressive episodes (those TEMPORARILY brought on by unexpected outside stressors). And I do seem to be susceptible to SAD, especially on Christmas/New Year's...

That having been stated, Karan, remember that YOU, like so many here, have always been "there" with me, or us, when the Vigoro hit the Mixmaster...now, dear, it's MY turn.

E-mail, PM, call me or send up a flare...I'm HERE if you want me!

Karan, I think I can somewhat relate to this, although I can't really say I have been truly depressed; it is more an annoyance with things I wish I can do, but find it difficult doing.

I wish you the best during this time.

***********HUGS***********!!!!!!!

Karan....that's the world's biggest HUG coming to you from outta the east

Now I echo dennis's words....either hang up the phone or git offline so I can hear your voice instead of 'beep-beep-beep-beep :D Unless of course you are talking to Dennis or one of our other beloved friends...if that's the case then I say "talk on'

BUT.....

I say this to our friends.....stop hoggin Karan so I can get a word in edgewise!! :D

Seriously tho'

Hon...know you do not walk alone..know that although a dark cloud has come upon you....behind that cloud is the bright sunshine....all it needs to shine is a big breath of breeze to blow the cloud from whence it came....I have ALOT of air....so do those here who love you....let us then take a collective breath and help you blow that dark cloud away..and remember to that without that cloud coming and camping on your doorstep we can never truly appreciate the warmth and light of sunshine.....all things work for the good.....ALL things...even dark clouds and rainy days

love, hugs and neverending prayer, jackie

It's been crazy here at work today. I'm here, I'm OK. Rather teary eyed - but here. That is not like me AT ALL to be emotional at work!!!! YIKES

I can't tell you how much all of your wonderful responses, hugs and words of encouragement mean to me.

You guys are the best!!!
