The nest will be empty within a week

#1 Postby j » Fri Apr 16, 2004 6:23 am

Great news! My stepdaughter's b/f is due home from Iraq early Sunday morning. It has been a long 15 months and j is a tired grandfather.

They will begin their life together as a family next week, and they will be getting married on May 15th.

The flag is out...we are proud of him and the sacrifice he has made for all of us. Time to be the Daddy he hasn't had a chance to be yet!

j....good luck with the empty nest. You will have mixed feelings for sure as this year, 2004, is my first real time as an empty-nester myself. Thank your stepdaughter's husband for his duty for us, and we wish them well in familyhood. It will be a big adjustment for them, but one they (and you) have all earned.

j - ditto on the well wishes from me too. I'm sure it will be very quiet at first, a welcome addition to your household. Just hope you don't start to miss them too much. I think I'll have a hard time with the empty nest situation. My oldest is very involved in activites/clubs/dance in school and outside of school. We do lots of running with her. Tomorrow we're all heading up to Indiana University for our third college visit/tour. She will keep me so busy right up until she goes off to college, I'm sure. I think I'll probably sit down with a thud and do some crying. But then I'll dust myself off and get thru it. My youngest doesn't want to be that involved yet. She enjoys renting movies and hanging out with us sometimes still. Thank God! But I do encourage Laura to get busy too, but she almost always says no I like being home Mom.

Good luck with it j.

YAY!!!!!!!!!!

Ditto the above, j! And I must say I am SOOOO relieved to know that he's really getting out of there. After that news I posted a couple of weeks ago about how they were changing the plans of many troops who were about to leave and keeping them there longer than expected, I was worried and kept him in my prayers.

Please give him our thanks! :)

I'm so happy to hear that he's coming home j! I echo the sentiments made above that you will end up missing your daughter and grandchild though. You're a good dad and I'm sure they all appreciate the support and love you've given them during this time! :D

Please give my personal thanks to the b/f for doing what he has done for us. We will keep them and you in our prayers during this transitional time.
