From WLWT NBC 5 in Cincinnati:
Report: U.S. Soldier Being Held In Iraq
Few Details Available
An Al-Jazeera videotape of a U.S. soldier being held hostage in Iraq does exist, but its authenticity needs to be confirmed by U.S. military officials, NBC News reported moments ago.
The U.S. military has two soldiers officially listed as missing in action, including Pfc. Matt Maupin, a 2001 gradute of Glen Este High School.
Friends and loved ones gathered for a candlelight vigil at the high school Thursday night, WLWT Eyewitness News 5 reported. Another vigil is planned for Friday at 7 p.m. at the Clermont County Courthouse.
The soldier has been missing since April 9, when gunmen used rocket-propelled grenades and other weapons to attack his convoy, the Pentagon said. The attack was one of many during a flare-up of casualties and instability in Iraq in recent weeks.
Four Americans, including two soldiers, were reported missing after that attack, and Maupin's whereabouts have been unknown since. Wednesday, the Pentagon confirmed that one of those bodies was that of a soldier, but officials still have not released that soldier's identity.

Jeremy - thanks for posting this. I am praying for his safe return. He grew up not far from my area, in Batavia, OH. All over Clermont County there (just east of Cincinnati) are yellow ribbons and flags flying proudly. I also found a huge section on the story, on Channel 9's website:

They're scum because they captured a US soldier? Hate to break this to ya but that's what conflict and war is about. You try to capture or kill your enemy.
That being said, I hope everything turns out alright for him.

Yes they are scum and the way they handle things. When we take prisoners (NOT hostages) they get treated great. And no it is only one sided in the war conflict as far as the treatment of both sides.

Some local articles of inspiration at this trying time for Matt Maupin and his family, I thought you'd all like to read:

FYI, Batavia is your typical small midwest town, east of Cincinnati, where everyone knows your name. I've driven thru there a few times and I always thought it was a nice town. Until such terrifying times, it comforting to know it really is a nice town!
