That NOISE on American Idol...

#1 Postby sunnyday » Wed Apr 21, 2004 4:57 pm

Several of the contestants on American Idol make me deaf with their screaming!(is that supposed to be singing?) They get so loud and discordant that I literally put my hands over my ears. LaToya London is the worst of them. She could break glasses with that voice. I don't see much talent on there this time. The only one I like is the young red haired kid. He was more class than all of the rest put together, and he's only 17. :D

You have got to be kidding! Last night was one of the best nights of all! LaToya, Fantasia, they have such powerful voices and they want to show them off. Last week, Fantasia was stunning. She wasn't overpowering...very subdued...it was doubtless the best performance of the entire season. Jennifer sometimes does sound like she is straining, and she has trouble with the low notes, but on a good night she is in the top 3, hands down. Even Jasmine blew me away. Those 4 were all wonderful yesterday. I usually call in and vote, btu I couldn't yesterday, because I couldn't choose between them. Diana and George have their bright moments...George has been slipping away recently and he just sounds like he's all over the place with his singing. Diana, I don't know. She started out great, but she's also been slipping away. Her country performance was her peak...she looked like the next LeAnn Rimes.

And then there's John Stevens. WHAT is he doing on that show? He may be "OK" but he doesn't compare to LaToya, Fantasia, or even most of the contestants that have already left. He is out of his league. I think Simon made a great point last week...some of these kids are just too young. They still have plenty of time to develop and train their voices. Except maybe John Stevens. I don't think he can be saved. :(

I'm not kidding at all. I don't like loud yelling like they do. Fantasia is another one who screams like LaToya. I don't consider that singing. It's good that everyone sees things in his/her own way. :D

Jennifer Hudson

However, she didn't look shaken up or disappointed at all when they announced it, nor did she cry when they played the video clip of her at the end. Something tells me she already has a record contract in the works, so it's probably not a big loss for her.

Fantasia and LaToya rounded out the rest of the bottom three. Something is clearly wrong with America. Those three were the best in the entire competition. Even Simon thinks so.

So, some people in America agree with me that LaToya and Fantasia are not good singers but screamers! :D

My wife agrees with you SunnyDay. I agree with OHD. John is good, but he is too young and doesn't have "it" yet.

Fantasia should win it hands down imo with Jennifer clsoe behind her(obviously not now). And Jennifer has no record contract that I know of but has a contract with a cruise line that she works for as a singer on cruises and has been for a while. My guess is she will be offered a contract by someone.

I guess i'm the opposite of you. That red-haired guy is not a very good singer. I am still amazed he lasted this long. He sounds more like a crooner from way way way back in the day. I agree that he definitly doesn't have "it" right now. But he may.

Im with ya JQ!.. John Stevens has a lot of work to do vocally to be a recording artist IMHO. He is not versatile enough and only sounds halfway decent singing songs from 19oxwagon!

Jennifer Hudson was great! She had great range and power to boot!

I like I have said, American Idol needs to redo their voting system. Instead of voting who you think is the best, you should vote for who you think is the worst. That way you won't be as likely to get a bunch of stupid, pre-pubescent airheads calling in for the same person 100 times just because that person is young.

Let's put it this way, WHEN John Stevens (The red-headed kid) a Frank Stnatra-like song, he's alright, but when he tried other genres, there's just.........nothing left.

Unfortunately...this has obviously turned into a popularity contest. The bottom three last night was a shock. As for saying they are screaming. I can't judge that. I know I couldn't do any better and I feel they are way ahead in vocal ability than the previous contestants from all seasons. Some of them sing better than some of those who we hear on the radio  It should be left up to the judges  It shouldn't be about popularity...it should be about talent. Unfortunately..from the judges responses last night it isn't. They were as shocked as I am

I think the voting system is causing the show to lose credibility. John is far from "Idol" status IMO. The bottom three this week was a joke!

It was! Actually out of those three, I liked Jennifer's performance the best. There's something about Fantasia that I don't like. I don't mind the "screaming" per se - the three of them have alot of power in their voices.
