Spam

#1 Postby coriolis » Fri May 14, 2004 9:04 am

I started getting adult-oriented spam at work! What a disaster! I quickly emailed the IT guy and the HR guy and let them know in no uncertain terms that it was not requested! They assured me that I was not the only one, but it was good to have it documented for my protection. I set up message rules that automatically forward them to a "junk" folder and that intercepts about 95% of them. I have to be careful about the preview pane, and I turn outlook off when I leave my desk. But I waste about 10 minutes every day dealing with this. Here's my question: these ads usually have an "opt out" button. I've heard that these are used only to verify that an address is good so you get MORE spam. Is that true? I've been ignoring them for about a month now, but they are not going away. Any input, anyone?

I've heard that too about the "unsubscribe" or "opt out" buttons. It verifies the address and, as requested, takes you off THAT list, but puts you on others from the same company and others.

It's best to not open the spam and, if you accidentally do, don't reply or hit any buttons.

Yep, once I quit asking to be taken off their lists and they were never opened and just redirected to my delete section I quit getting that crap.
