Bouncing Baby Boy...Weighing in at 13+ pounds

#1 Postby southerngale » Thu May 20, 2004 7:25 pm

Newborn baby is one in 40,000
Infant born in Mexico weighs over 13 pounds

A very unusual baby was born in in Mexico this week. Blanca Rosa de Leon Garcia gave birth to a bouncing boy that weighs more than 13 pounds, about the size of a three-month-old infant.

The head of Mexico's National Institute of Health says the newborn's size is "exceptionally rare." Only about about 1 in 40,000 babies are that big at birth, he estimated.

Salvador Garcia, the baby's father, said the family is "very happy."

“We didn’t expect this though, now we have to buy bigger clothing because what we have is not going to fit," he said.

Pedro Garcia was delivered by Caesarean section.

My son was 8lb 11oz at birth, and my wife's stomach had its own zip code right before birth. I can't imagine how this poor lady felt.

That is ONE big boy! Our first son was the big boy in the nursery too. Tapping on the glass, I simply had to hold my hands far apart for the nurses to know which one to bring to the window.

Jason weighed in at 10 lbs 8 oz. His mama cried more than he did.

...and she had names for me too.

It took five years before she forgave me...and then Jarrod came into the world at 9 lbs 4 oz!

After that, doc clipped me with scissors before my wife got her hands on them.
