Women Turn To Nude Farming To Please Rain God

POSTED: 12:57 pm EDT July 6, 2004
UPDATED: 1:03 pm EDT July 6, 2004

KATMANDU, Nepal -- Female rice farmers are plowing their fields in the nude at night to please the rain god during a dry spell in southwestern Nepal.

A 35-year-old farmer said she and other women are baring all for the rain god because a delay in the annual monsoon season is threatening their rice crops.

She told the Himalayan Times that her "mother-in-law said the god would be pleased and make rainfall if women till the land naked."

The monsoon rains usually begin in the first week of June in Nepal but have been delayed. That has kept farmers from planting rice.

Forecasters in Katmandu say the weather should improve in the next few days.

Is this not stupid????? lol.....

LOL! If they get their rain, they can change over to mud wrestling in all that muck!

Seriously though -- gross! That makes rice (and all the means that go with it - cajun beans and rice, sushi, chinese food) a bit unappetizing now when you think about it. Thank God for Texas rice!

EEEWWW!

As far as I know Nepal is not exactly the warmest place on earth either!

That kind of thing could be a hit here in Daytona during bike week.

Y'know, just because people have a system of beliefs that differs from yours, that doesn't necessarily make them stupid.

Lighten up already.

When you think about it, though, there is only 1 God who makes the weather, etc. :)
