My house flooded out!
UGGGGG!
I had a tiny little leak in the roof, so the land-lord sent a guy to come over and repair it... well, the dude cut out the sheet rock, and then took off the shingles and, well I could see the sky from my kitchen. Next thing a thunderstorm desides to join us.... blah! There was so much water running into the hole, then it started pouring out of all the light fittings, the hood over the stove, through my grocery cupboard.
Everything got ruined, my TV cabinet, my husbands huge speakers, all my kids video tapes, towels, linnen, and a weeks worth of food, stuff in the fridge and freezer got ruined because we had to shut down the power. Fortunately it never got near the carpets. Im so mad I have so much cleaning to do now. Oh and I got a call from some friends of mine from London, they are arriving at my house TONIGHT from Orlando... it never rains but pours!!!!

Sorry to hear about this, Bronnie. The roof guy doesn't sound too bright. Couldn't he have gained access to the hole from some other out of the way area, like a closet or attic access -- somewhere NOT directly under the leaking hole. And then maybe couldn't he have covered the area where he removed the shingles so as not to expose your home to the elements?

What a mess, is right! Yuck, I hate floodings, usually happens to me when my washer decides to walk away from it's fittings, jiggles them loose somehow. The last one sprung a leak right at one of those times when everything went wrong when it could go wrong--my car battery was dead that day too!
But good thing you're in the tropics and don't have to be bothered by any miserable cold. Your post reminded me of some horrible camping we've done in the rain, in a hurricane once even! Til they told us to pack up and go home. That was Bertha in NJ, at Frontier Town campgrounds there. After being there for three days in off and on bands of rain, it was a mess too. Total muddieness too.
The kids all pitched in and we loaded the van, everything soaking wet and headed down the road. We could have went to a shelter to brave it out, but I just hit the road driving, I was outrunning it to get home to clean up.
With kids sacked out on surf boards and soggy sleeping bags only 20 minutes down the road. I didn't outrun the rain till I hit Frederick, MD about 3-4 hours later.
We pulled into home right at daybreak. What a drive that was. Now that I think of it, washing machine floodings aren't so bad.
How did your roof get a hole in it? Loose tiles?
