Stories once headlines in the news.......

#1 Postby Miss Mary » Fri Apr 04, 2003 12:36 pm

Since the war started I've heard very little about 2 once major news stories (I'm sure there are more):

1. The tragic Rhode Island nightclub fire. Any arrests in this tragedy?

2. Laci Peterson - the young pregnant woman missing since Dec. 24. I've thought of her so much since then and had hoped she'd be found - alive and her baby fine.

Anyone know updates on these stories? Thanks.

I haven't heard a word on either of these stories in a while.

I was thinking the exact same thing, no news but war news 24/7.
I think of Laci Peterson every day, too. Such a sad, tragic story.

yea, i think all news agencies should focus on atleast some local news. I wanna know how Elizabeth Smart is doing, and what new information they have found out in the case.

I'll bet Elizabeth Smart's parents are glad the attention has been taken off of them. Gives them time to settle in with their dtr and readjust.

I agree that Elizabeth Smart's parents probably are glad the focus isn't on them right now. She needs time to heal. But occasionally I wouldn't mind hearing how she's doing - in a positive way. Don't need to hear the whole story just that she's adjusting. Poor girl.

There was an update on Elizabeth Smart on Good Morning America today, nbut I missed it so i am not sure what was said. I think that the media is realizing that they have to get back to other issues other than the war occasionally, or they will lose some of their viewer base. Thank The good Lord above.

Not a word...

Miss Mary...I too have heard nothing from these stories..and only minor updates from the Elizabeth Smart case.

I have noticed that I do read the morning paper a little closer for details of other stories these days...TV is overwhelmed with the war.

I even looked close enough at the sports page to notice that my Cubbies let your Reds win their first game on Friday night!

That's my baby bears! Always looking out for the other guys!

I did hear yesterday that the forensics folks took samples of glitter and paint from the night club. It seems that the soundproofing materials used on the walls may have been spray painted. The reasoning being that the paint may have contributed to the speed of the fire's movement. :o

Because of my website, since Friday evening, I've recieved emails from one of Jessica's former teachers; a lady whose daughter plays high school basketball with Brandi Lynch..and is a friend of Jessica; a WV state senator that spent much of last week with the family; and a newpaper editor from Wirt county, and they all tell me the same thing: that family is WONDERFUL. Not just Jessica, but her dad, mom, older brother, and little sis. Mr Lynch seems to be a little uncomfortable before the tv cameras, but I'd probably be the same way...especially if it were Katie Couric grilling me with silly questions at 7:20 in the morning

I heard that some people held a benefit concert for the sound man for the band, to help pay for his medical expenses.

About the pyrotechnics disaster.... as you all may remember, the grand jury had been convened to gather enough evidence to seek charges. They have heard all statements from all witnesses, members of the band and their road crew, employees of the club and the nightclub owners. They are now into the gathering of evidence stage, which mf_dolphin stated above.

As soon as formal charges are handed down by the grand jury, this tragedy will once again be back in the news.

There have been numerous benefit drives for the guitarist/bassist from Great White that was also killed in this tragedy.

Just saw this article online. Let's hope this isn't Laci Peterson and her baby but I fear it might be:

"Laci Peterson investigators examining bodies found in park"

I heard about this potential Laci Peterson and her son "appearance," too. We are only really able to get other news stories from the internet and our local stations, rather than the cable news networks.

Here's an article related to the RI nightclub fire I just found, for those interested:
