I'm overwhelmed...
...Storm 2k is exploding with new members before my eyes and I feel like this is a different site--it's hard to keep up with hurricane discussion. I've never been an extremely active member, but, I'm around member no. 500 or so, so I guess I feel like sort of an original. It's great to see the board grow, but, this is hard to keep up with all of the info and opinions. I have mixed feelings.

Sean - what you are feeling are growing pains! This site is really taking off, with Hurricane season also being so active this year. Just imagine 50 new people joining the same day, they each want to ask specific questions and start a thread. I just randomly chose the number 50. I'm finding it hard to keep up with topics over there also. I'm finding the chat room to be very helpful right now, mostly I sit back and read the hurricane discussions. The Off Topic board seems rather quiet by comparision to Hurricane H. Maybe you could try hanging out over here for a while? But mostly I'm just trying to ask you to be patient! Most of us are feeling these growing pains but if you look at the BIG picture here, it's great that this site is growing by leaps and bounds, isn't it? The more the merrier I always say.

The NHCwx.com broadcast have to be playing a role as well. How else could there be between 500 and 600 members in almost the last 23 1/2 hours?

Sean in New Orleans wrote:This is still absolutely the best place for the very latest in hurricane info. Maybe I'm being sentimental---I'll get over it. I just think of the nights, like this, where I come on and there will be 4 or 5 people posting together....no biggy. I'm enjoying the reading.
It is difficult to keep up with all of the posts - actually, I prefer the board more than the chat area because THAT goes very fast. So, I can understand what you are saying.
It has been very exciting to us to see S2K grow like this. I agree with Miss Mary that you are probably going through growing pains - just like our server!

Seriously, I'm a very sentimental person myself. I hope that you will always feel comfortable coming here to read and post. I think of it as our family is just getting larger!

Storm2K used to be a community college and now we're a university!
Small country before - now a nation!
Whatever analogy works....it's amazing how much S2K has grown from when I joined. It stuns me still to realize how membership has exploded!
I suspect though as winter sets in and hurricane season is over, this place will calm down. I don't want newcomers to post less but I do think we'll all settle into a "new normal"?!!!

I agree Miss Mary... a lot of people are here for the tropics only. So when the season starts to slow down then I believe that other places will start to speed up again and things will even out.

I'll likely stick around this year for the Winter--this is going to be a wild, frigid Winter, IMO, for most of us. I'm looking forward to some interesting discussion on the upcoming Winter. The active tropics are only validating this belief of mine.
