Dear Shannon,
Today is March 31, 2003. March 2, 2003 my kitchen caught a fire. We been staying with Brittany great-grandmother. We stayed there a month until our house get ready, we been waiting a while. Until we moved home Saturday 28, I was thankful, but no place like home. The house is not ready, but I have my furniture in it. We been use in the potty outside. And heating water on the stove. We don't have the septic tank yet. But they are trying Tuesday to get it down. I never heard a toilet flush before...it sound good. I always had to put water down the toilet. I am bless, I waned to crying. Central air and heater also. I can walk on the floor with socks on my feet. Go to bed and not be cold. I got a bed that is not hold together with tie down. I got a door that I can look out without bug comeing in. I got a roof over my head, that when it rain, I will not get wet. The first time it rain, I am going outside and just stand there. I got a room that I can close the door. Always had a blanket or a sheet for a door. I am in God House now. I am so happy and bless at the same time. Once or twice I almost gave up, but God pull me up and I am so thanks. I hope one day ya'll can come back and see my house (God house). Tell everyone hello and I love them please. One day at a time.
Love
Anita and Brittany
See what I mean...grammar needs work, but its understandable. We had worked with Anita on the house and saw Brittany after school. Anita treated us like her family. Southern Hospitality was a plus! We stayed in Springhill, Louisiana but, worked in Taylor, Arkansas. Every day that we built, we drove by Anita's 'shack' and it was only motivation to get as far was we could.
Here is a letter from Charlie Park, the Executive Director of the Webster Parish Habitat for Humanity.
Shannon,
Sorry this took so long. But you guys got us going on a roll that we could not slow down. It has been incredibly busy. Anita got her septic tank installed yesterday and the day before (two-day job). And THEY MOVED IN...ACTUALLY TOOK SHOWERS IN THEIR NEW HOME NIGHT BEFORE LAST!
Peace and Grace,
Charlie
I was crying when I found out that Anita was finally in God's House! Her dream of a Habitat home has finally come true!
