BOARD UPGRADE SCHEDULE!

#1 Postby mf_dolphin » Tue Sep 21, 2004 6:40 am

Below is the schedule for the upgrade today:

1. 6:30 PM Eastern - Board taken down for database backup. From this point on the message board will be unavailable until the move is complete.

2. 9:00 Pm Eastern - Entire site down for transfer to the new server.

We hope to have the new server fully operational by Wed morning. Please be patient though while we make sure every thing is settled in. :-)

Thanks Marshall,

I hope everything works out great and we get the new server running without a hitch.

The transfer to the new server must be done automatically. I don't think those involved would be up late on a Tuesday night/Wednesday morning.

I don't know how they do it. Being that it takes a while to back up a database as large as this one (I am guessing it is at least 250MB); that alone would take a while. Then they have to move it to the new server and import it over there (after the board software and database software is installed on the new server). Once that is done they will then transfer all the front page stuff. That's what I am guessing anyway.

Moving a site like this is a lot of work since it is so big.

It's definitely not automatic. I wish it was! Our current databse (>350MB) and all of the HTML pages have to be moved from one server to the other manually. It's going to be a long night ;-)

I know for a fact the three of you (Marshall, Chad and Steve) were up during the overnight hours.
