I have to share this with everyone...this article, printed in the SunHerald, is about my 5 year-old nephew!!! It's amazing what kids can do when they need to!

Quick thinking saves the day

By MARY LOUISE MASON

THE SUN HERALD

GULFPORT - When 5-year-old Joseph Tillman's stepfather had a seizure and needed help over the weekend, the youngster managed to stay calm and phone his relatives for help.

"I just can't thank him enough for waking me up and calling for help," Joseph's stepfather, Ralph Tillman, said. "He's always been my best pal, but he's my hero now."

Ralph Tillman was in the kitchen about 7 p.m. Saturday when a seizure took control of his body. He woke up on the kitchen floor with his stepson gently slapping at his face while on the phone with relatives. Joseph Tillman had tried to call 911 but instead dialed 1-1-9. Eventually he called his uncle's house. The number was on speed dial.

Before family members could arrive, Ralph Tillman woke up from the seizure and took his medicine. No emergency personnel responded to the house.

"I just didn't know that a 5-year-old could do that," Ralph Tillman said Sunday. "We've only been working on his numbers for two days now."

About 15 years ago, Ralph Tillman suffered a head injury when he fell on a metal stake in a factory. That injury still plagues him in the form of seizures. Ralph Tillman said he usually has about 10 minutes warning before he has a seizure to call for help but this time it came without warning.

I read that Kami! I had no idea that was your nephew. Give him a great big hug for me. He should get the outstanding citizenship award for this. He is a little hero.
