Update on Pfc Jessica Lynch...wonderful news!

#1 Postby JetMaxx » Fri Apr 25, 2003 12:21 am

Pfc Jessica Lynch is a very special young lady. Only three weeks after being rescued, she's already making plans to return home to West Virginia..and she intends on doing it standing tall.

Doctors now estimate she'll be released from Walter Reed Army Medical Center around June 1st, but Jessica has plans of her own......
According to her third cousin, Jessica has told her family she plans on walking again in 3 to 4 weeks (when the casts are remove), and when she does, she intends to return home to continue her recovery among friends and family.

Jessica is recieving electro-magnetic physical therapy (??) to stimulate and keep her leg muscles from weakening (atrophy), and has a very positive attitude...overjoyed several friends from the 507th are alive and well; and the well wishes in cards recieved and posted on website forums are reportedly providing her much appreciated support and motivation in her recovery :)

Thanks to everyone that posted a get well wish to Jessica...God bless you!

btw - if anyone notices I changed a post by my baby sister Beth in the get well forum on my site -- that was just me looking out for her; when Beth posted her get well wish a couple weeks ago, she left the link to her email. After a couple weird/ bizarre emails I recieved (asking very private information about Pfc Lynch I wouldn't answer even if I knew it, which I don't)-- I decided to copy/paste repost Beth's post and delete the original one (and her email link)...she told me this evening she was glad I did it (Beth also told me she loved me...thank God for little sisters :)

3-4 weeks is TOO optimistic for broken bones; my wife's shattered knee took 7 months, and "firehead"s broken right arm took over 14 months to heal, with "no gym" imposed for a year after even that.

She may be premitted to return home, but I seriously doubt that she will heal and walk anywhere near the 3-month-overall figure stated. Either that, or Walter Reed's orthopedic surgeons are enjoying an undeserved reputation.

I agree Bill...and so does her family. They are in the process of building a large new ground floor bedroom on the family home to accomodate Jessica when she returns home (her old bedroom is upstairs per a news article I read yesterday).

It just does my heart good to know she's got an attitude that positive; and that messages she's reading in get well cards and on message boards are motivating her, keeping her spirits high. Just the fact she wants to get well, is willing herself to get well is great news.

A friend that's also a nurse at Wellstar Douglas hospital told me she's seen people walk out of that hospital that by all rights should never have walked again--because they had the determination and "never quit" attitude. She also said she'd seen people give up, pity themselves, and live as invalids that could have walked...if they'd only kept fighting.

Is there any word on whether she will finish out her tour, be "retired" or honorably discharged from the Army? One other thing...I wonder why President Bush hasn't made a trip over to see her? The White House is only minutes away... :?:

Perhaps President Bush hasn't has a chance to get to Walter Reed Medical Center and/or the family isn't ready for him to visit her. I would think the President may think this is the cause so is waiting for a more appropriate times.

Just some of my ideas. :)
