Slightly larger steam and ash eruption, but still minor comparatively...

That's why I didnt say MT ST HELENS ERUPTING NOW!!!
I was in Washington when it erupted in 1980. Not a lot of fun. I wouldnt wish that on anybody. A whole different sort of mess to clean up from and devastating in lots of different ways.

The USGS guy said these events are magma getting nearer to the surface and boiling away water from the glaciers. This isn't it yet...

I saw the same steam just around 1pm EST as you mentioned Sanibel..I reckon there is plenty more of that to come..With recent rains, a melting Glacier, and last I heard Magma 1/2 mile down and moving up..More Steam to come no doubt..Looks ominous with the Crater smoke filled..

No offense intended, but although very interesting, don't you think this message is off topic and should be on another board?

A volcanic eruption is a geological rather than a weather event (and certainly isn't hurricane-related). Notice it's the USGS and not the NHC monitoring the pending situation.

Again, I'm not seeking to chastise. You've made many excellent posts to this board in the past. However, the Storm2k servers were recently upgraded due to excessive load, and if we try to stay on topic with the purpose of this board, it might be helpful.

At best, this thread could be moved to "off-topic," but isn't it the exact same servers that would handle it in that folder as in here?

Also, it's not like traffic is very heavy right now with no major storms in the tropics.

To whom it may concern:

I find any or all topics concerning erupting volcanoes interesting and Storm2K related, no matter which forum they're originally posted on. If they're on the 'incorrect' board, they'll be moved to the correct board, so it doesn't annoy me if I'm reading about MSH on the tropical one or here on Off Topic.

I've read one too many comments about the relevance of MSH topics here of late. And I just wanted to step up and give my 2 cents worth to west coast members - keep updates coming please. This member appreciates them. No matter where they're posted.

I don't care what board they're on.

I wanna get updates.

I'm just trying to figure out if volcanic activity is considered "weather" by most or just a non-meteorological natural phenomenon...like a tree growing in Brooklyn. :wink:

Alicia - and here you live in Florida! Silly me....didn't pick up on that at first. My knickers were never in a twist....LOL The hurricane forum has a very different feel than the other forums. I venture over there with one eye closed sometimes.

Mt St Helens has some sentimental value to me. I was in the hospital at Fort Lewis Army Medical Center, having just delivered my first son on 16 May 1980, when she blew the first time. Well, okay, not the first time, but you know what I mean. My mother and brother came up from AZ to visit/help out and had decided to drive up Mt Rainier that day. Wow, they got a show they NEVER expected....

I've lived all over the world, so I have a pretty diverse interest base.

FWIW...I struggled before I finally decided to make the post to begin with - specifically because I did not want to offend anyone. I could go on about why I chose to post despite this, but there is no point.

Anyhow...I apologize if you felt attacked, Alicia. That was certainly not my intent.
