Man Admits Shooting Neighbor For Mowing Lawn Too Often

POSTED: 2:58 p.m. EDT April 29, 2003

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- An upstate New York man has pleaded guilty to shooting a neighbor he thought mowed his lawn too often.

Not strange enough? Read more strange news from WFTV.com.

The shooting happened last October, just outside Elmira, New York.

Kevin French shot the neighbor in the head with an air rifle as the man drove his riding mower.

Prosecutors say the two men had a strained relationship for months before the shooting.

French's guilty plea today came on the second day of jury selection for his trial on a charge of attempted murder. In exchange, French will be sentenced to up to five years in prison. He faced up to 25 years for the original charge.

can we do that to our neighbor??? She will mow her lawn at 7am on a Saturday or Sunday morning. (It was 6am but, my mom had a nice little talk with her about it) Mine and my mom & step-dad's bedroom faces her lawn. Believe me...its a nice alarm clock! Roar of a lawn mower!

Believe me, lawnmowing in my area doesn't start until like 8:00 AM or early afternoon hours.

I reside in a Condo and I am on the seventh floor and I can hear the lawn mower man mowing late afternoon. I can imagine how you all feel with the mowing at 7 in the morning. :o

I live in a community where the houses are close to each other, so it is very easy to hear someone mowing the lawn. I am usually sleeping around 7 to 9 am, so I don't normally hear a lawnmower, so it doesn't wake me up.

I am part of what I would like to call "Lawnmower Wars". I mow my yard a lot and so do both neighbors on either side of me. :) It is kind of fun sometimes! However, I do not mow the lawn at 7 a.m. because the grass is too wet.

I like to get up early and mow my lawn - ONE ACRE - before it gets too hot. So I guess now I might get shoot one day. LOL - one of the benefits of living in the country! :-)

Mowing before 8AM on the week-end is punishable by death in my book! :-)

I suppose I'd be shot too. (Because of the time, definitely not the frequency :) )

I have a little theory, somtimes it works, sometimes not, "If it can't be done by 2pm, it wasn't worth doing that day".

It's a die hard "Morning Person" thing of mine I guess.
