Pilots fired for flying in the nude

#1 Postby TexasStooge » Fri May 02, 2003 11:22 am

DALLAS (Court TV) — Two Southwest Airlines pilots were flying the skies a bit too friendly.

The pilots, who have not been identified, were fired last month after apparently taking off their uniforms in the cockpit and flying the plane naked. A flight attendant saw them when summoned into the cockpit on the flight several months ago.

"We conducted a thorough investigation and terminated the pilots for inappropriate conduct," said Southwest spokeswoman Ed Stewart, who said he could not comment on any of the details of the incident.

The pilots are expected to appeal the decision. They argued that one of them removed his uniform after spilling coffee, and was spotted by a flight attendant after being asked to bring paper towels to the cockpit. It was unclear why the second pilot may have removed his clothes.

I heard about this on tv. Being silly cost them their jobs.
There's having fun and then then there's having fun. They went just a little bit to far.

I also heard this on the news... The Fox News Channel in fact... Dari Alexander reported it in the last portion of a 90 second news update a few nights ago. She said, "we don't have any pictures to show you for this story."

No pictures...that's a good thing! It's hard to believe that two fairly well paid people didn't use their heads. Real stupid to lose a good paying job over something like that.

Alot of scenarios come to mind....they might have been loosers in some sort of bet. Or perhaps they were old friends that had a history of being competitive with each other...one always had to be one up on the other in any given situation. Or maybe someone slipped a little something into the pilot's coffee, putting them in a euphoric state, therefore not knowing what they were doing. Then again, they may have been gay.....just a thought :38:

At least they wouldn't have to stop to take off shoes, belts, earrings, and coats like all the rest of us have to!

Maybe we should consider eliminating all those screeners by asking all passengers to arrive at the airport naked. Once you have made your way through security, you'd be given some comfy jammies and a pillow for your flight.

You could recover your clothes at the other end after finally locating your luggage.

That has to rank up there as one of the stupidest career decisions in history -- to pull a stunt that dumb during an economic recession in an industry where job competition is fierce even when times are good.

I'd say it was a stupid thing to lose their jobs over, Marshall. Even the thought of doing such a thing in the cockpit makes no sense whatsoever.

Linda, it says in the article that they took their uniforms off because they spilled coffee on themselves.

I think the story said one pilot spilled coffee....doesn't explain why both had their clothes off. Probably a joke that just went too far...

I suppose that is the case, Marshall. We do know that one of them spilled coffee on themselves, apparently not both. Sorry.
