Looking Back!

#1 Postby azsnowman » Sat May 03, 2003 3:24 pm

With the anniversary of Arizonas worst wildfire in history just a few short weeks away (6 weeks actually), here's a link to some of my photos I took while on duty with the Navajo County Sheriffs Dept. Man, I cannot believe that it's been almost a YEAR! Also, there are some photos there from our trip to New Mexico yesterday.

BTW, these photos were taken with the Olympus Digital Camera that we've all been talking about, GREAT camera for the price indeed!

Great pics Dennis. I always wondered how they re-seeded burned forests. Now I know. What a great thing you and Michelle plus others do. You are to be admired for your dedication. Seems your son is a chip off the ole' block eh? Nice looking fellow you have there.

Thanks Linda! Yes indeed, Chris is carrying on the Denton name and the Denton trait! He too is a BIG man like the rest of us, 6'3" 240+#'s!!

Now, the reseeding of that area is gonna take years and years, but with help from folks ALL OVER the country coming to help with the volunteer effort, it's going a little faster than first orginally thought!

Thanks for sharing the pictures Dennis! I hope this year is better but I have to admit it's not looking good.

No Marshall, it's NOT, in fact, things are WORSE than last year, it's hard to believe that with ALL that snow we had in March and the fire danger is extreme already and getting worse with each gust of wind!

With the wind and the grounding of the air fleet you could be in for a bad year. It won't take long for that wind to dry out whatever moisture is there and turn everthing into kindling. Could be a long hot summer for you...

I sure hope not Marshall. Hopefully they will catch a break this year. And maybe, just maybe, people will be more careful!! One can only hope and pray anyway.

Let's hope that the FAA gets the air fleet back in the air sooner than expected. Maybe with the worst of the war in Iraq some military assets will get freed up as well. Prayer always helps so from the looks of things we better get it on the prayer list now :-)

Reading an article on the forest service website this morning, sounds like the Slurry Bomber Fleet is all but grounded for good or at least until some newer planes can be retrofitted for these kinda missions. They are going to depend on the military helo's now that the war for all intents and purposes is over, Thank God!

Remember driving home from work the day the fires really got cranked up, Dennis.

The sky was clear and bright blue except for a huge plume I first thought was a thunderhead off in your direction. It was clearly visible from 16th Street and the 101 freeway in Phoenix....my highest point on the way home.

Let's not have a repeat performance.
