Any Wizard of Oz fans out there?

How cool is this? Someone wrote a prequel, which tells the early story of Glinda, the Good Witch

and Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West

and now it's also a Broadway play.

Well, anyway, I thought it was neat. I think it's cool when people get imaginative and write about what may have happened before or after we originally met certain characters (like in prequels and sequels) or with secondary characters (like Mary Reilly, Dr. Jekyll's maid).

I think it's bound to happen. Don't most Broadway plays, even musicals, also become movies?

I've just started reading the book "Wicked:The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" by Gregory Maguire. I'm only on page 40 (of 406), but I'm already fascinated. I wonder if this book has any connections to the play? Regardless, I hope the play eventually makes its way to SE Florida. I love Oz and I love musicals! :D

Why, yes it is! I failed to post the link (sorry about that -- got too involved with the pics).

I am probably one of the biggest Wizard of Oz fans in the world. I love that movie and watch it whenever it's on.

I also played the Wicked Witch of the West in a High School production.. I tried out for the part of Dorothy but I didn't get it. I actually enjoyed playing the Witch especially during the "Death Scene". :)

L Frank Baum who wrote The Wizard of Oz wrote a total of 14 OZ books. I dont know if the Broadway show is based on any of them or on the book that Dee Bee mentioned.

yep. Family tradition. Hey, remember when the whole movie was black and white? It was a BIG deal when it was "colorized" from Munchkin land onward. Each frame was hand painted!

I was lucky enough to interview one of the remaining technical crew members a couple decades ago who told me how they used diatomacious earth in the making of that most famous tornado!

In my lifetime I have met people just like the wizard, just like tin man, just like every character including the wicked witch, Ms. Gulch, and Dorothy too.

And what little girl hasn't wanted a pair of red slippers to take her off to Kansas and beyond!

Ooh! It's a weather post now! I'll move the thread. Very cool segue into the main passion of S2Kers, Steve!
