Two Arrested in Florence Burglaries
An 18 year old and a juvenile are under arrest in connection with three burglaries in Florence. At about 7:45 am Wednesday the burglar alarm sounded at Mark's Guns, on Dixie Highway, in Florence. A Boone County Sheriff's Deputy spotted several men in the rear of the business. The deputy captured one of the suspects. Minutes later, a Florence police officer arrested a second suspect.
Florence police are also investigating two other burglaries overnight. Master Jewelers on Main Street was hit at about 4:00 am Wednesday. The other burglary took place at Joseph Cadillac on Industrial Road. One of the stolen cars was discovered at the scene of the Mark's Guns burglary. Police found a second stolen Cadillac near the Master Jewelers burglary scene.
Two suspects are under arrest: 18 year old James Eapmon, of Florence, and a male juvenile from Covington. Both are charged with two counts of third degree burglary and one count of first degree burglary.

That jewelry store is only a couple blocks away from my home! The gun store is maybe 5 minutes' walk from there, and the Cadillac dealer is maybe 10 minutes from home. Scary that it happened so close to home.
String of burglaries in Florence, one 1/2 mi. from me

Jeremy - we've had a rash of home burgularies over here in Anderson Township. Always happens close to the holidays, b/c my community is a transient suburb, many residents travel from Thanksgiving to Christmas, to New Year's. We think thieves target homes over here b/c of this reason.
I belong to a neighborhood watch and we continually receive updates from the Sheriff's office.
I guess we all just need to be on our toes - business owners and residential ones too.

There has been a mess of burglaries in the Dallas County area.
First, a string of robberies took place in my hometown and Arlington, mainly targeting hispanic families. Irving Police are hoping to track them down.
Another case, the Take-over robbers steal one car after another in Richardson. One suspect has been arrested, the other is still on the loose.
Another string of robberies took place in South Dallas, suspects posing as the FBI broke into their homes and robbed the families.

In my area, officials have asked residents to refrain from habits they may have always done, such as:
1. Warming their cars during winter. Or if you do, lock the doors if you own another key.
2. Closing garage doors even if you're somewhere outside working in your yard. Thieves have been known to just blatantly walk up to an open garage and steal bikes, golf clubs, expensive tools, etc.
3. For the women - leaving their purses in their car. Even if they think they'll just run inside for a minute or two. That's all it takes to grab a purse (this happened to one neighbor and a relative of mine). Prior to my teen driving, as we were in and out a zillion times a day for her activities, I would pull in my garage, leave the keys stick and my purse inside (b/c I was going back out in mere minutes again). But I'd close the garage door. Police say don't do this either!
All in all, we need to think like a thief. If you're on vacation, have a neighbor take in stray flyers, mail, paper, etc. Have them watch for notices hanging on your front door knob. If something hangs there for a few days (Avon is a good one for doing this), that's a dead giveaway you're out of town.
Ever since we had police officers update my neighborhood on a regular basis, I've changed my habits.

And now we are experiencing a rash of home burglaries here in Anderson Township. He broke into a neighbor's home yesterday! Yes just a few doors down from me. He broke the window out of a back door to a garage, to unlock the door. He rumaged around the garage but didn't go in the house. We think it's because the family has a very yappy, nasty little dog - a Jack Russell terrier that is mean-mean. Had this man walked into the house, that dog would have bitten his leg (this dog goes for your calf, attacked my Golden years ago). Anyway, most of us despise that little dog but for once it pays to have a mean dog! That is the only dog I've said I will attack if it ever attacks my dog again. Oh yeah.
But back to the story....what this thief is doing is entering homes, via a back door (either garage and/or family room/kitchen), and it doesn't matter if the homeowner is home or not. Recently he entered a home while the wife was in the kitchen, he just walked in the back door, past her and grabbed a purse, cash, anything he could see right away. And was gone.
This is just the Cincinnati/Tri-State area (SW Ohio, N Kentucky, SE Indiana) but if it's happening here, it can happen anywhere. Don't leave door unlocked (house and car). Don't leave cash lying about, even if it's in the back of your house where you think no one would be so blantant to enter. With the holidays soon upon us, officials are telling us not to wrap presents and put them under a tree, in plain view from a window.

Here's something that we did in Phoenix to get back at thieves at the malls.
They're always giving you the requisite warnings about leaving packages out of sight, blah blah blah.
well, we left a beautifully wrapped nice-sized box on the top of our car (intentionally). Unbeknownst to the scum-sucking pond dweller that took it, it was full of the findings of that morning's doodie patrol from our back yard!!!!
Bet he'll think twice before he steals that again...
