Celebration of Victory?

Certainly the US waged and managed a relatively quick war against Iraq, but it seems hardly the right thing to do to celebrate victory.

Winning the battles for Iraq does not equate to winning the war over terror.

Seems more appropriate to have homecoming celebrations and recognition for jobs well done...but not victory parades and celebrations.

What's your thought?

I agree Steve that victory celebrations should not happen right now. We have only won a battle in this war on terrorism. If they want a parade of victory they should leave that to the Iraqi people. They have alot to celebrate these days.

I vehemently disagree; our soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines need all the public support they can get, especially when these same men and women may be called upon to go at any moment to some other theater of this war against terror.

Of course, I still remember what my return was like 30 years ago...this must never happen again.

I agree with the recognition of sacrifice,a job well done and a Hearty Welcome Home...I agree also that my homecoming was less than enthusiastic some 28 yrs ago.However..to clebrate a 'Victory' is something else all together IMO.
I was and am still in disagreement over going to a Full scale War with Iraq..the Removal of Saddam could have been done covertly..very Reaganesqe...and BTW,where is he???Victory?Hmmmm.We crushed them like a cheap beer can.BUT...this is a War On Terror.
No Bin laden..No Saddam=continued War on terror.And people wonder why World Opinion of the US is so skewed.
Mr Bush needs to address the Economy,and nailing bin Laden,containing N.Korea,dealing with the UN/Iraq reconstruction,etc..not have Parades.

The war against terror isn't over by any means, and the 'celebration' will mean different things to different people. Bin Laden is still riding the range; where is Captain Insaneo... Keep your heads down.

I agree about the troops being cheered upon their return. They deserve it. I disagree with parades of victory over the war. We have by no means won the war, just one of the many battles.

I have to side with Bill on this one. Our men and women in service did their job and should be recogized for it. The hunt for Saddam and his cronies will continue just like the hunt for Nazi's continued for years after WWII. While I agree that the was on terrorism is far from over, the war in Iraq is over so let's celebrate! I

Our men and women should be congratulated for a job well done and thanked a hundred times over for the sacrifices that they made on our behalf.

We have been very good to this point avoiding calling this war a victory and I hope we continue to do so. When we've found Hussein, WMD's and Bin Laden, we could celebrate our "victory" but not before. Unfortunately, even if and when these come to pass, there will still be terrorists...

What we have accomplished in Iraq during late March and the first half of April sure was a big part of the work that needs to be done against the "axis of evil."

We did win, but I agree with the majority... there shouldn't be victory parades and the like.

Victory - I think we did accomplish one - from our military forces in liberating the people of Iraq from the evil horrors of Sadamn Hussien.

I think we need welcoming home parades and celebrates to salute the men and women who so bravely are making strides in defeating the evils of terrorism.

I watched two programs last night on the History Channel about Sadamn Hussien - if nothing else is accomplished from this war is saving 1000's of Iraq's lifes. The Butcher of Baghdad isn't in power anymore.

I can see reasons for parades for that reason, which are really "victory celebrations."
