For those of you thinking I had dropped off the planet... you thought wrong :P :lol:

I've missed you all tons and tons, but life, such as it is, has disrupted my postings.

I went on a fantastic vacation for 2 weeks, traveling through the Rocky mountains, Unita's and the siearra's. What a beautiful country this is. We had a blast.

I even got to experience 2feet of snow for the first time in my life. One word of advice... if snow chains are required.... LISTEN TO THE ADVICE. We went over Donner summit in a mini blizzard in California with no snow chains. Not fun.

Anyway, its good to be back. My abscence from the board has been extended due to the fact that every member of my family, one after the other has had the flu. My 8month old just came back from the doc and has a bad ear infection and all the rest of the gunky stuff that goes along with the flu. Im seriously sleep deprived :(

AHHHH but its soo good to be back in town :P

Sounds like a GREAT vacation and you're right - we do indeed have a beautiful country! Sorry your family had the flu.

I'm surprised that they let you through the Gate without chains on if they had the warnings up. In reality, 2 feet of snow is not a great deal for the Sierra-Donner averages around 35 feet of snow during the Winter and usually has a snowpack in 12-15 ft range at the peak. During the Mother of All Niño's in 1982-83, Boreal Ski Resort at Donner had a 30 ft BASE. I've been over Donner (with chains) during a full blizzard up there with snowfall rates in the 4-6 in/hr range and 80 mph guests which is a moderate blizzard for the Sierra Crest (anyone who has ever seen the reports from Slide Mountain near Reno knows what a major Sierra blizzard is). BTW for all those out there, the Spanish word Sierra is already plural so there's no need to pluralize it. Sierra Nevada means "snow covered mountains"-if you say Sierras or Sierra Nevadas you are saying "snow covered mountainses".

Bronnie and family....get that rest, drink plenty of fluids, and get the family through the bout of flu and then, THEN, think back again to just how wonderful that trip was. I actually was wondering if you were in any of that snow...with the RV?

Sooo good to see you back safely and checking in. In this topsy turvy world of ours, it warms the soul to be in the company of people who give to others just through the smile in their messages.

Alaskahuna, thanks for the insight. I had no clue that area could accumulate so much snow!!! It really is a spectacular sight, even with only 2 feet on the ground. I think the scariest thing of all was the trucks flying past. I had never seen a snow chain in my life, and the noise alone can be very intimidating, especially when you are sandwiched in beteween big rigs!

Steve (skyman), we did have the RV. It was really great. 2 double beds and a fold out couch, microwave, fridge-freezer, oven and stove top, toilet and shower. Basically very self sufficent. The only problem we had was in central oregon it got down to 16f and we had the heat on inside, which I think caused the entire windshield to crack.... yup I know what your all thinking... Floridians have no clue, and I guess your very right about that one!

Oh Oh and we also got a very close encounter with a grey wolf in west yellowstone. It was snowing and hubby and I went outside to take some video, as hubby went round the back of the RV there was "bo" (we found out later his name was Bo and is the local town pet) Bo, was a little close for comfort and gave us a huge fright, bumping into a wolf in the middle of the night is rather scary!! Anyway, he just looked at us and walked away, I went pale in the face and ran into the RV, leaving hubby to fend for himself :p
