Taser use on children

#1 Postby alicia-w » Mon Nov 15, 2004 3:41 pm

There's no way this is justifiable in either of these cases if what we're being told is the whole story. Sounds like some desk time or unpaid vacation is in order for a couple of cops.

If I cant use it at home for discipline, they shouldnt be able to disable a truant kid...

Doesn't that count as child endangerment?

That's disgusting to me...those officers should be ashamed, as should the clueless idiots at city hall who authorized it.

What were those officers thinking? Why does a grown man...a trained law enforcement officer ever need to use such a weapon on a 6 yr old boy or 12 yr old girl?? If I couldn't subdue a child without using a taser, I'd find another career.....because it would be obvious law enforcement wasn't the right choice for me.

I just wonder if those officers who used the taser have children of their own...and how they'd feel about someone using a taser on their child.

I've been hit with a taser...as part of my training as a security officer. It may not be lethal, but in the wrong hands is most definitely a weapon of torture. IMO it's in the wrong hands when used on a child....whether the perpetrators are wearing a badge or not.

How in the hell could a trained police officer not be able to overtake a 12 year old child without using a taser? And there has gotta be a better way to deal with a 6 year old hell bent on causing himself bodily harm. In both cases the officers should be fired..then prosecuted.
