Man saws off his head in supermarket

#1 Postby Amanzi » Tue May 06, 2003 12:40 pm

:o
A 31-year-old man sawed his head off in full view of staff and customers at a supermarket in Richards Bay, northern KwaZulu-Natal, on Monday afternoon, police said.

Superintendent Jay Naiker said Emmanuel Gumbi walked into the butchery section of Shoprite branch, switched on an electric meat saw, positioned his neck near the blade and sawed off his head.

He said Gumbi did not leave a suicide note.

Naiker said Gumbi's family said they had been shocked by the incident because he never showed signs of depression. - Sapa

Truly a bizarre story. How awful if you saw this. Yikes - it's enough that I would become a full fledged vegetarian after seeing something like that. I could never look at the butcher section again in the same way.

TexasStooge, I'm already 75% Vegetarian anyway, this would just push me over the edge!

Still, very shocking story. At first you think this can't be true - why didn't someone stop him, turn off the saw, then it's so bizarre and given our news today, you begin to think yeah it's possible. Sad world we live in.

He had to know what he was doing. Just the act of putting your own neck near the machine. ---> :o

Being a meat cutter for some 20 years, I can't EVEN imagine, I cut my left index finger tip off on the band saw, saved it, packed it on ice and they sewed the tip back on.

We had a gentleman a few years back in Phoenix throw himself into a chipper/shredder, tried to take his wife in with him, she escaped unharmed!
