Hummer H2 Defects

#1 Postby alicia-w » Tue Dec 07, 2004 8:58 am

I guess we wont be buying one of these until that's fixed....

That kind of money for a vehicle and the wheels fall off?? What's next?

Government Probes Hummer H2 for Defects

WASHINGTON (AP) - Federal regulators are investigating the Hummer H2 after receiving three reports of wheels falling off the vehicle, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Monday.

Involved in the investigation are Hummer H2s from the 2003 and 2004 model years. General Motors Corp. said there are approximately 59,670 of those on the road

Four drivers reported a fracture in the steering knuckle, which allows the wheels to turn. All said they lost control, including one driver whose H2 veered into oncoming traffic and ended up in a ditch on the other side of the road. In three of the cases, a wheel fell off.

The Hummer H2, which starts at around $50,000, weighs 6,400 pounds and is one of the largest sport utility vehicles on the road.

GM said it is cooperating with the new investigation. NHTSA investigations can lead to vehicle recalls.

Watch out for these monsters on the road...

#9 Postby Persepone » Tue Dec 07, 2004 12:43 pm

No I don't drive a hummer!

But there are idiots out there who do own these monsters and I've always been somewhat terrified of them when I'm driving on our narrow roads next to these behemoths in a small, light, gas-efficient Saturn...

The danger is not so much to the person in one of these tanks, I think, but to the innocents who have to share the roads with them.

Guess it's safe to jump on the pile:

From the side, the H2 reminds me of an old west stage coach.

We know several folks that own them and they get closer to 15mpg, which is no worse (or better) than those huge escalades, suburbans, etc, etc...
