We will have a new addition to our family soon!

As if!!

Actually we're going to be a host family to a German exchange student next semester, an 11th grade boy. He's arriving Jan 3.
We're looking forward to it. We hosted a girl from Barcelona, Spain 14 years ago. It was a great experience. I don't know if she feels the same way though. I went into labor while she was here, and she attended the delivery and everything. Yep, she got quite an education! :D

I don't know a stitch of German, so if someone can teach me how to say "hello" and "pick up your dirty socks", I'd appreciate it.

I know some German, but not a lot.

Hello = Guten Tag, Tag, or Halo..(pronounced Ha-lo)

If you need more, I can look some stuff up, or ask my friend who is in AP German...

Hi Donna...congratulations on your newest addition! What part of Germany, do you know?

Enjoy his company. I'm sure he'll feel at home.

We know a young student from Hoorn, The Netherlands, who desperately wants to come to America, but don't know how to help her get in the mix of foreign exchange students. Let us know if you have any insight.

Again...what a neat way to start out the year!

Congratulations, Donna! I think a little "Guten Morgen"
("good morning"), every day, might start the day off
right for ALL of you, and, you'll do just fine, from there!
That has to be SO interesting and fun to sponsor a
foreign student!

Donna getting a pocket German dictionary wouldn't be too bad either just to polish up on some of the language for your guest next year! :D

That's great, Donna. He'll see that America is not as portrayed in the media. Good luck! I'd imagine that he knows english, so you learning german may not be an issue. ya?

Donna you might be surprised at how much English this student already knows, either from being around Americans stationed there or from being taught in school. If you decide to learn German its easy..at least to me it was. Good luck!

My wx buds, thanks for the encouragement and the German lessons! :D

I'm told the boy has had 4 years of English classes, and he writes it pretty well based on the application he filled out.
He's from Frankfort, btw. And he will definitely be getting some storm spotting lessons this spring! lol :D

Steve, Our kids' school takes several foreign students every year. It's a small private school, and they don't yet go through a particular agency. But later today I'm picking up a packet of information that they use which is published by such an agency. I'll send you a PM when I get the info. I hope the student from Netherlands gets an opportunity!
