There are so many restrictions these days on blood donors, so if you meet all the requirements, take some time and give the ultimate gift, donate blood!

I'm planning to donate in KY when I'm there for the holidays. I haven't quite reached 60 days since my last donation yet. :D

You just reminded me of something alicia. Our company has the blood mobile out here 3 to 4 times a year - just like lots of other companies. However, if we actually go down and donate, we have to use vacation time to do it. Cute, huh? Management asks us to literally lay down and bleed just to make this company look good, and we get dunned vacation time for the privilege.

I don't understand why the blood folks still come out as hardly anyone bothers to go. Real shame.

Last time I tried to donate (and I emphasize "tried"), I was turned away because I had a mole removed, and they wouldn't take my word for it that I didn't have cancer. So now I need my doctor to send documentation to the blood bank doctor stating that I don't have cancer. Supposedly this will be put in my file, and everything will be ok. Yeah, right.

One of the greatest days in my life will be when the figure out how to draw blood without sticking a needle in my arm...

The look of fear I have is horrific...And no matter how much I try to look away, I always have to look at the last minute...

Thank goodness I have not fainted...*Where is the wood?*

i have a list of the eligibility requirements and all you need is a statement from your doc. i'd get a copy and keep it in my billfold.

the blood banks are hurting. military folks usually donate a lot, but new restrictions based on deployments to Iraq and lots of European countries (thanks to mad cow) have severely limited the number of folks who can donate blood.

In the DoD, civil service folks do NOT have to take leave or vacation. I do it on my lunch hour anyway since they have goodies for you when you're done.

Can't. I have O negative blood and tried to donate after 9/11. At 4'11 and 91 lbs they said I'm too little and don't meet the minimum weight requirements. :(
