"Shhhh....hear that?"

#1 Postby azsnowman » Mon Jan 03, 2005 11:37 am

Shhhh.....can you HEAR that? It's a HUGE collective *sigh of relief*, the KIDS are BACK IN SCHOOL :bd: The stores are now back in ADULT control, the streets are safe (until lunch break)! And I've still got 2 more WEEKS until my classes start again, "Ahhhhh, it don't GET no better!"

Kids are not back in school here until tomorrow. The stores here have calmed down though. But, I had to go back to work today. :(

That sigh of relief isn't about to be released where I live. My school doesn't go back until January 10th. We're really late this year.

School doesn't go back to Thursday here, so my younger sister is still here annoying the heck out of me.

I'm counting the hours. :)

The county that I live in is trying a new term system. Basically, it means that every 6 weeks we get a week off from school, but it means that we finish shortly before Christmas and go back quite late.

James, you're lucky

Before I entered 10th grade, the kids in Irving ISD used to have a 3 week vacation. Now due to Budget cuts, they only have 2 weeks.

It's a shame about all these budget cuts with education. I know it's not really related, but the art department at my school has run out of paint that was supposed to last them until April. Their budget was cut by 20% this year. :(

Anyway, back on topic, I think the new term system means that we lose a week of our summer holiday, but I'm not sure. We break up on 21st July and return on 1st September. What kind of break did you get in America?

OK, so you're not lucky on the summer part.

Back when I was in school we had to gather tree bark and stuff and make our own paint. Then we used the wood for the wood stove, and cooked the roots for lunch.

Sounds similar to what many school systems here in the USA are doing nowadays...year-round (another term for it is called "tracking").

The school year is slowly getting longer here(longer breaks during the year for Thanksgiving and Christmas). School ends around May 20th and begins around August 8th. I remember in elementary school 6 or 7 years ago when school began 2 weeks later than it does now.

When I was in school we had a full 3 months for summer vacation. You kids today are being robbed.

In Atlanta (Roswell) the kids go to school at 9:15 and do not get out until almost 5.

My girls went back today. And I had to make a grocery/pharmacy run today. Already xmas merch is long-gone and Valentine's Day merch is out. So many VD decorations up!!! It's just January 3rd!

I still have xmas decorations to put away.

But then again that xmas merch/store decorations were out since...what...Halloween?!!!! LOL

And cracking up here at Karan and Ed's posts.....I had to walk FIVE MILES to school, in blizzards, rain, sleet, ice. Wearing a Catholic School's wool skirt uniform - we were not allowed to wear pants or even pantyhose......brrr. Well, that part's true but the 5 miles is a stretch...so are the blizzards....he he.
