I've seen several of those pics before...and yup, they're real! It's a common site in St. Maarten.

A friend just returned from his honeymoon in St. Maarten and had a series of pictures like that. They do land right over you!

I went on a cruise in 1997 through the Eastern Caribbean. We went on a large catamarran to view the island of St. Maarten. I think they have one of the shortest runways used by commercial airlines.

Can you imagine the people on the plane??? :eek:

so much for a nice quiet relaxing day at the beach. OMG, that's awful.

the approach to the runway in Anchorage Alaska isnt much more comforting.....

years ago laying on a beach here un florida we suddenly heard a large boat that sounded WAY too close - sat up & just down from us a 50 ft. trawler had run aground. It ran over one ladies legs, but unbelievably she was ok. seems the capt. had fallen asleep at the helm!

Yeah it is... the runway is just off the picture. That's how it goes on those small Caribbean islands.

i know it's real, but having been an aircrew member in the past, it seems like they're cutting it a little close by not having the gear down.

flying that low, they probably dont want to clip a tourist...
