Hypnosis???

#1 Postby tano68 » Wed Jan 12, 2005 9:03 pm

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone around the Houston/Galveston area (I know there are many members here) that know of a reputable place I could go to to get hypnotized for smoking? I really want to quit and have tried before, unsuccessfully of course! My husband just quit New Years and I really would like to join him. I have heard of people getting hypnotized before and have never started again. I really don't want to go to one of those "meetings" at one of those hotel lobbies with 150 other people, like they show in those ads in the paper! I really have no clue who I would call or where to look. Any suggestions?

Thanks abunch,

Tano

Can't someone at least reply? I really thought someone would have something to suggest. I know I'm not a "huge" poster, but I have been here for years. :(

Oh well, thanks anyway, maybe I can find something out somewhere else.

I've never been hypnotized for anything. Have you tried looking in the newspaper? We have ads for that here all of that time....

I went through a program at Methodist Hospital 25 years ago which included some self-hypnosis and it did work IMO. I haven't smoked since then and I am the only one in my family who doesn't. As far as the cessation programs using hypnotism are concerned, I do not know which ones are legit and which ones aren't. My best suggestion would be to check the yellow pages and ask these places to send you information.

Thanks for replying, I was getting a little worried.

Its funny how someone could post a topic to try to get some advice on a way to QUIT smoking and and only get 2 replys and someone else post one on how they HATE smokers and you get 18 replys  . Kinda ironic isn't it? Thanks again.

Yes, smokers are the most hated people on the planet - particularly if they're Red State Smokers.
Heroin addicts get more support than smokers of tobacco.

But I again digress. My husband and I tried it a few years ago. His took; mine didn't. Can't remember the guy's name, but he was in the Bellaire area and is a phycologist. Another friend of ours referred him to us and it worked for him. Six years smoke free. Both he and Dave said you still have to have the desire to really do it and once you get past the first 2 days - clear sailing. I'm obviously still a titty baby...

That is the key, no matter which way you choose to quit. Some ways work better than others for each individual, but YOU MUST have the mindset that you really are going to quit for good!!

Well,

I hate to admit it, I really like to smoke  . BUT, I know I need to quit. I have tried the patch, worthless in my opinion. Maybe I wasn't ready then either. Who knows? I know I need to quit for my health and thats a good enough reason to keep trying, right? I am going to try and find a psychologist, maybe they can point me in the right direction, ya think? I'll probably need to see one anyway while I'm trying to quit!

Oh well, worth a shot! :)

Listen carefully to my voice -- you will not smoke anymore, you will not smoke anymore, you will not smoke anymore, you will not smoke anymore, you will not smoke anymore, you will not smoke anymore, you will not smoke anymore, you will not smoke anymore, you will not smoke anymore, you will not smoke anymore, you will not smoke anymore, you will not smoke anymore....

Plus, IMO, it takes away from one's appeal and looks. Ya just can't be a babe when you smoke. :beam:
