Does anyone here have a dog that has seisures? If so, what are the symptoms of your dog's seisures?
Bailey, our new Yorkie puppy, had an episode last night of what could possibly be described as a seisure. Her body got really stiff, her eyes became blank and fixed, and she started shaking. Her equilibrium got thrown off, and down became up for her... She had a tendency to tip over backwards. I held her through the episode, it lasted about 2 minutes. Once it was over, she 100% snapped out of it. She became the normal puppy again, running around like a maniac.
This has happened once before, the 2nd day we owned her. However, she had just fallen off the couch, so we thought it was a result of her fall.
I talked to the vet, and they agreed that this isn't an emergency situation, because she snaps right out of it. They said it sounded like it *could* be seisures but she definitely needed to be checked out, but it can wait. Her next booster shot is in 3 weeks, and they said it could probably wait until then, unless it happens again or if they become more frequent. They said that seisures can be regulated with medicine- does anyone know the details of this?
Is it a daily medicine? Does the medicine completely prevent seisures or just make them happen less? Can Bailey live a happy, fulfilling life if she has this condition? I guess I know these are all questions to ask a vet, but so many of you are knowledgable here... I am in a lot of subjects but not this one!
So, please write back if you know anything about this subject of have a dog with seisures! I'd appreciate any feedback.

I had a friend in KY who had a dog who had seizures. I only experienced seeing it one time. It seems that sometimes epileptics know that things aren't right and they're about to have a seizure. Her dog walked up to me (I was sitting on the couch) and started nudging my legs with his head and neck. His eyes looked sad and lost and I guess I knew what was going on at that moment. I picked him up and held him and petted him throughout the episode. It lasted only a short time.
And I have a friend who is epileptic who also knew just a second or two before she was about to go into a seizure. She alerted us that she wasn't feeling right and shortly after that, she went into a seizure.
Based on your description, it does sounds like your puppy had a seizure. I wish I had more information to give you, but that's the only experience I've had with them (besides those that happened in the ER with a full staff around the patient).
I hope she's okay. Yorkies are so cute!
