9 now dead, hundreds injured. The car that caused the wreck was INTENTIONALLY placed on the track.

That is as far as I will go right now.

The individual in custody was allegedly suicidal when he or she drove the car onto the tracks and parked it there. It is also being reported that the person had second thoughts and jumped out of the car.

Now, this person is being charged with murder.

I'm thankful that the person changed his or her mind about suicide. However, it would have been beneficial to not harm anyone else in the process also. It's like people who drive into oncoming traffic in an effort to commit suicide. Do they happen to think about those other people?

Ten people were killed and about 200 injured. :(

If you're gonna kill yourself (which I don't think ANYONE should do), please don't kill others with you!! Geez...and then he changes his mind is not injured but 200 others are and 10 dead. Dozens of the injured were in critical condition. Yep, there should be a murder charge.

i think that person is scum. its one thing to sit in your room and kill yourself with a shot to the head or overdose of drugs, but to intentionally place your vehicle on a rr track, and then at the last minute decide your life is more valuable than hundreds of other lives is despicable. of course, we will begin to hear cries of sympathy for him, while hundreds of familes are distraught, many are dead, numbers are mangled for life, and others severely injured. reminds me of susan smith who supposedly was going to committ suicide while butchering her kids, but at the last second she decided to bail. but, of course, the sympathy poured forth for her, and her life was spared. not her kids lives though.
no matter how many times this guy supposedly tried to kill himself, when it came to crunch time, his life was too valuable to throw away. he considered many others as trash to be thrown out.

Suicide is a selfish act. Even when not carried out, the person contemplating it does not think about the feelings of others.

i hope he gets what he himself always wanted, death. however, i feel his crime may be even more horrific than even this indicates. numerous "failed" suicide attempts are often a desire for attention. what if this man had no intention of committing suicide on the tracks? what if he thought it would be a great way to grab national attention for himself without even realizing how many people he would butcher and mangle?
i have no sympathy for him.

Well if he wants to end his own life perhaps the courts can help him. He is a mass murderer..nothing less. But in all likelihood he will spend several years in a hospital untill he is "cured" :x The only cure for this SOB is lethal injection.

Wait a minute. I can understand the no sympathy part. But you are clearly mistaken. Helen, he had cuts on his wrists, and a wound to his chest from trying to stab himself (source: Washington Post). And please explain how "failed" suicide attempts are often a desire for attention.

He is not a mass murderer in any shape or form. He is just someone who needs some help.

Well he should have gotten this "help" before he wantonly slaughtered innocent people. The time to help him has passed. It is time for punishment and the only proper punishment is death :x
