Would you have plastic surgery?

#1 Postby azsnowman » Mon Jan 31, 2005 8:47 pm

OK....would you have plastic surgery to *improve* a certain part of your body? Now this doesn't count IF you've already had it, you don't have to tell us if you did!

Me, Naaaaa, I like me JUST like I am!

Nope - not for elective, cosmetic reasons.

Reconstructive surgery, perhaps if necessary.

No, except perhaps to repair a severe injury. I am what I am.

I have had plastic surgery.

My wife worked for the doctor at the time. It started out as a SMR which makes it easier to breath and is not cosmetic. The doctor said he wanted to "fix" my nose besides the SMR and I said fine as long as you don't want anymore than insurance will pay for. As it turned out he did the nose job and used me as a guinea pig for one of the first chin implants in the U.S. He had to take the implant out becuase it got infected, but the scar tissue left did the job anyway.

Past that I would have plastic surgery to "correct" the remains of my obesity(if I ever get thinner again)if I can afford it and feel it needs to be done.

Having plastic surgery just to make oneself look better with no underlying reason other than vanity bugs me, but some of the amazing transformations we've seen on tv in the last year have apparently changed lives too. So where do you draw the line?

Reconstructive, and only if necessary.

For instance, my dad had a large melanoma removed from his face (twice). The second surgery left a rather large hole, requiring tissue and skin grafts which were done by a plastic surgeon to make him look normal again. The skin graft failed...so it's still not quite right....but we're just glad he's alive and has made it past his 1st year with no signs of recurrance. But, this is the type of scenario where I would have plastic surgery.

I used to work for 6 ENT surgeons. 2 were also plastic surgeons. My coworkers and I would see patients in all pre-op and post-op phases. For one thing, some people just can't stop. First it's the nose job, then it's the eyelids and before you know, he/she is a regular.....a repeat patient. But for another, we saw them at their worst and in their most painful part - moaning and groaning, when the nasal packing was removed. One lady said where on God's green earth did you pull that from, from feet? So we all said, no thank you.....well, one employee did have some minor facial work done but she was exception. I said then and there, I will never elect to have any cosmetic surgery. Now if I happen to break my nose and need surgery, then maybe....but that's a big maybe. I've had this face for so long, I think I'd be tempted to say keep me at this age, but fix the crooked nose (from the fx ya know, from being a klutz, if that ever happens!).

i'd do a little work around my eyes. Not to the extreme that my eyebrows would merge into my hairline!

I was gonna say that BUT 8-) this IS a family site LOL! Now....yeah, I guess y'all are right, I would have plastic surgery to repair something after an accident, in fact.......my left hand was rebuilt in 1980, had a MAJOR car accident and tore off my left finger and tore all the knuckles off too, I literally have plastic tendons, one plastic knuckle and numerous screws holding my middle, ring and little fingers on.

Yankee Girl, yeah, I'd like to have liposuction done to my chin too, it's not a DOUBLE chin, it's a TRIPLE chin LOL!
