Ever had jury duty?

#1 Postby azsnowman » Tue Feb 01, 2005 7:33 am

Has anyone served jury duty? I've served on 2 jurys, been the foreman on BOTH....and both, we found the defendants guilty.

Served twice. Found for the plaintiff once (wrongful death suit), for the defendant once (wrongful termination suit).

Once, found for the plaintiff, awarded damages and punitive damages for the coverup of the contamination of the property that resulted in the plaintiffs having to move out after health was affected by chemicals used in treating termites over a period of a couple of months.

Yes and I knew the judge, law clerk, baliff, went to school with the State Farm attorney, did some work for the other attorney and I have State Farm Insurance. Can't figure out how I got picked...guess they figured I knew everyone and could be impartial. Plus I think I was the only white female college graduate.

Plaintiff asked for $750,000....we awarded her $500

Claimed she got TMJ from her cell phone hitting her jaw when the car hit her from behind. First call she made? Not to 911 but to her brother the attorney. She saw 9 doctors and never followed any prescribed treatment plan. She was also seeking lost wages...her business TRIPLED in the year she was "hurt". Ahhhhh what a great diverse jury we were...we saw how they were trying to abuse the judicial system.

Just once. It was an auto accident case where the parents were looking to hit the jackpot. A driver hit a little girl riding her bicycle across the street, coming from behind a truck. The little girl was alright. The dirver stopped and the little girl told the man that her "Mommy was going to be mad" and her "Daddy was going to sue him". They turned down a $10,000 settlement from the insurance company because they were trying for more. When the little girl said that in court, our minds were made up! BOY was her mother pissed! It felt soooo good!

Well in the past I have gotten letters from the Circuit Court asking me to confirm my eligibility for jury duty. I have yet to be called though.

I had been notified of being "in the pool" several times when I lived in the Chicago area, but my "number" was never actually selected to appear for jury duty. I've been in FL for nearly 5 years but as of yet have never been contacted.

My dad did on some small civil case. He didn't like it.

I'd like to one day, just not on a long high-profile trial like Michael Jackson or Scott Peterson.

No, have been called twice, but working for a doctor, I know most of the attorneys and since my husband is Deputy Sheriff I am sorta biased as to if they arrested them, they probably had good reasons. Neither side wanted me.

Mary

My mother in law told the judge last time they called her that she had a migraine headache and that the person was probably guilty cause her son wouldn't have arrested him if he hadn't been....needless to say she has never been called again!

Just once....dead woman found frozen in the driveway
after a night of hearty drinking, mid-winter.
They tried to make it look like the two guys
who dropped her off at the end of the
drive were guilty - the people needed a scapegoat(s),
you know. All votes were guilty - 'til it got to me.
We'd reviewed all of the slides and evidence.
I had another opinion. I changed the vote. They didn't
like my opinion.

Doubt I'll be called, again!

I was suppose to, but at the time, I was in college in Northern Vermont when I was summoned in Connecticut.
