#1 Postby Brent » Wed Feb 02, 2005 8:47 am

It skid off the runway, across a busy highway and then crashed into the warehouse in Teterboro, a suburb of New York City.

My husband works about a mile from there. I heard the report and immediately tried to reach him. Not being able to reach him at any of his numbers, I was getting concerned. The link you posted gave the time of the accident, which I hadn't found anywhere else. Thank you! My husband was still here at 7:20! I was telling myself he is probably in a meeting, now I can believe it.

This airport shouldn't be where it is. At the other end of the runway is a youth soccer field. Change the circumstances slightly and this accident could have taken out a field full of kids and their families. The planes do take off directly over the soccer field. It is right in the center of a large industrial area. There are also homes very near this airport. This is not your local airport with a few single engine planes. This airport has many larger charter and corporate jets.

I'm glad that your husband was safe and sound weathermom.

North Jersey is just so congested. Is that airport relatively new?

It is not new. It has been around since the 50's. Before that it was privately owned. In the last 15 years or so it has gotten very busy and the planes there have gotten much larger. It gets lots of corporate traffic because of its proximity to NYC.

Surprisingly, NO fatalities! There are injuries; one of the pilots has a broken leg, and both of the auto drivers have severe head trauma.

NTSB will be on site shortly, and an investigation of causes wil be forthcoming.

One of the head traumas is in critical condition, unconscious, and on a respirator. Doesn't sound promising. And he was probably only trying to go to work.

No reports out yet.

My biggest fear is getting them all out in the morning, on busses and off to work, and not having one make it home. I have said before, I say a prayer every time the kids get on the bus. Guess I have to say one for my husband every day as he drives away too.

Look at the thrust reversers- they are deployed-

Looks like an aborted takeoff gone wrong...

weathermom - they were talking about that today and how cities need to be more responsible with their zoning because of things like this. they had said the warehouse went to wrok at 7:30 so if it had been just a few minutes later so much more could have happened. traffic sie as well as at the warehosue.
