LAKE JACKSON, Texas -- A Lake Jackson woman charged with killing her husband by using a sherry enema surrendered to police Monday.

Officials: Husband's Blood-Alcohol Level Was .47 Percent
Tammy Jean Warner, 42, turned herself into police Monday on a charge of criminal negligent homicide connected to her 58-year-old husband's May 2003 death.
Investigators said she gave her husband, Michael Warner, a sherry enema even though she knew his health problems made it extremely dangerous for him to consume alcohol.
Michael Warner died of alcohol poisoning. A toxicology report showed the husband had a blood-alcohol level of point-47 percent when he died, which is six times the legal standard for intoxication. Turner said a person drinking alcohol would usually pass out before getting a lethal dose.
Lake Jackson police detective Robert Turner said investigators believe Mrs. Warner administered at least two large bottles of sherry to her husband.
"The negligent comes from the fact that she provided the alcohol in large quantities to him and that he absorbed it and died from it. She knew and he knew that if he continued to absorb alcohol -- drink alcohol or absorb it any way -- it would kill him," Turner told Local 2.
Neighbors said the man had a history of alcoholism and was seriously ill with liver disease.
Police also charged Warner with fraudulent destruction of a legal document for burning her husband's will about a month before his death.
She was released from the Lake Jackson jail Monday night on a $30,000 bond.

It's a bizarre story all right, but something just doesn't smell right (if you'll pardon the uh..... er... pun). Apparently there is some bad blood between the woman and the husband's family, and the whole thing about burning the will just strikes me as odd. If she was trying to get away with something, would she burn it in front of a witness for God's sake? I kinda think the dude administered said enema to himself and went a little crazy with it and the family is making sure she's getting hung for it. Maybe I'll be proven wrong as the case unfolds, but I'm not buying off on this one just based on a sensationalist press story.
And yes, a whole lot of alcohol gets shot straight to the bloodstream through the membranes of the rectum. As I understand it, it's similar to the membranes in your nose. Think about people putting coke and God knows what else in their noses to get a buzz. Ever heard of phenergan suppositories for nausea for people who can't hold down the pills? Same difference.
