I experienced a great honor today...was thrilled!

After lunch, Granny suggested we drive down to Burgers market...a family owned fruit stand on Bankhead Highway just east of Douglasville (Granny needed some peaches, corn, & tomatoes; aunt Millie a cantaloupe and tomatoes).

I've been shopping at Burgers Market since I was a kid...but today was very special. As we were standing in the checkout line, I see someone that looks familiar (from tv) in line behind me. I'm thinking "isn't that Kaye Young"? I hear her voice, realize it is...and say "excuse me ladies, are you'll related to Ron"? She smiled and says "I should be...I'm his momma" :)

I've spoken to this wonderful lady by phone 8 or 9 times since Ron Jr was captured on March 23...seeing if they needed anything, supporting them in prayer...to see if Ron was a fan of my friends gospel singer-songwriter Eric & Debby Horner (Ron is a big fan, and I tried my best to get Eric booked for Ron's homecoming last Friday, but it was "set in stone" :( ...and checking to see if his care package (patriotic and gospel cd's) from Eric and Debby arrived safely..but until today had never met her in person.

Kaye's just as friendly and gracious in person (reminds me a lot of my stepmom). She just had to give me a big hug...as well as Granny and aunt Millie :) --Ron's currently relaxing and recovering at an undisclosed beach location (I know where, but am sworn to secrecy); will be guest of honor at next Wednesday's Country Music Awards (along with other former POW's); and will be back in Georgia around May 25th; Kaye said to call him then...they would be very honored to go to dinner with Granny and me :)

It was indeed a great honor to meet such a brave and gracious lady...and I can't wait to meet her husband and son, and shake their hands (Ron Sr is also a veteran)...thank them for their service to America and for being men of honor :)

If I'm ever honored and privileged enough to meet Pfc Jessica Lynch, her parents and siblings, it will be exactly the same feeling of extreme honor and respect I felt today; an immense pride that young men and women such as Ron Jr, Lt. Mike (Dude), Aaron, and Jessica are so brave, dedicated, and willing to sacrifice everything to keep us free.

I've never been a man to be awed by meeting others....but I've been floating on air all afternoon (so has Granny :)

God bless our brave heroes...and God bless their wonderful parents! :)

What a nice story -- isn't it great how things like that just happen sometimes?

That's great Jet! For someone who has been so very concerned with the health and welfare of our POW's, I'm glad that you were able to receive this "honor". It's very appropriate!
