Where was the Garden Of Eden?

#1 Postby GalvestonDuck » Wed Mar 09, 2005 4:30 pm

...in your opinion? The reason I'm asking is that I'm actually trying to tie the Garden of Eden to Texas for a short story, but it looks like it would be hard to make it believable if everyone is certain it's in the Middle East (since the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers were mentioned in Genesis).

This shows it between Iraq and Iran (could that be possible?)

For reference of the current Middle East layout:

According to Genesis, the Garden was located at the confluence of FOUR rivers, of which the Tigris and Euphrates were but two...one of these had a change of direction about 3,000 years ago (now runs west into the Tigris, rather than SE), and the fourth is visible from space as a wadi (dry river bed) across the northern Arabian Peninsula.

Knowing this, and taking all factors into account, the best estimate for the location of the Garden is underwater in the Persian Gulf, about 50 miles SE of Basra....which would fit the known level of water worldwide some 6,300 years ago.

Hope this helps, AFLAC. :larrow:

I looked it up at mapquest----and its not on a map--but according to mythology, its On the Island 'Atlantis' and I have heard that Atlantis was in what is now know as the Bermuda Triangle.....

Source
http://www.bookflash.com/releases/100602.html

Plato's dialogues about the Lost Island of Atlantis shows that the Bible story in Geneses about the Creation, the deluge and the Garden of Eden, were about the same people, place, and at the same time.

--Edited for better link--

Scientists agree with the above that the Garden of Eden and Atlantis (previously mythical) are the same and its located near Cypris-not the Bermuda Triangle....

http://www.discoveryofatlantis.com/welcomecyprus.htm

Cyprus is Atlantis, says American researcher
AN AMERICAN researcher claims this week that Cyprus is the site of the lost island of Atlantis.

After nearly a decade of research, author Robert Sarmast claims that the fabled ancient island is located on the sea floor between Cyprus and Syria, and that the present Cyprus is merely what remains of the mountainous region of Atlantis.

He also believes that Atlantis - and therefore Cyprus - was the source of what the Bible calls the Garden of Eden

Now he wants to launch an expedition to explore the sea bed.
"It's one mile down, the Titanic was two miles down in cold water and that was done 20 years ago," he said this week from his office in Los Angeles.

He said that he believes he may find the remains of a city, "containing buildings, roads and tunnels." He has kept his research secret over the last decade, with everyone involved having to sign secrecy pledges but now says that, despite not yet finding funds for an expedition "I can't just keep sitting on this discovery

If streetsoldier is correct it should be easy to find. Look for the spot where the ocean is steaming (flaming sword), in the Persian gulf, and its under there.

Bill...that's what we love and appreciate so much about you! What a resource you have always been!

I too have always thought that the Garden of Eden was in Iraq, but the specifics you have assembled make a strong case for just where.

And as we know still today....there is still a serpent residing in the hearts of many who live there.

So, here's the short story I wrote for my class:

When they first found the amber-capsuled seed washed up on shore after Tropical Storm Allison, Stewart and his girlfriend had no idea what curse they had just uncovered. The glossy, yellow sphere shimmered in the sunlight as Stewart bent down to pick up his frisbee from the sand. "What'd ya find?" Becky hollered. "A hermit crab?"

Stewart stared quizically at the object in the sand as Becky ran over to him. "I'm not sure what this is. Check it out." He picked up the sphere and wiped it with his shirt. "Is it a marble? Nice and shiny like one, but it's too big, isn't it?"

"It looks more like a piece of amethyst. You know, like the stuff around that fossilized fly everybody learns about in school?"

"You mean, amber?" Stewart said, smiling as he corrected her. "Besides, amethyst is purple. Topaz is the yellow one."

Becky smirked as she lovingly nudged his arm. "Amethyst...amber...whatever. You knew what I meant." Then, looking again at the sphere, she noted, "Hey, this one has something in it."

Stewart held the amber up to the sunlight and squinted as he tried to peer closer at the tiny seed within. It was a brown, almond-shaped pit, barely larger than a sesame seed. "Well, you collect shells and stuff. Why don't you keep it and put it in the display case with your other Galveston beach finds?"

"Aw, thanks, sweety," she said, as she stood up on her toes and gave him a peck on the lips. "I know just the spot for it."

She juggled the shiny amber in her hand while Stewart, exhausted after a long day of playing in the hot sun, but happy after finding such a unique and interesting artifact, drove them back home to the east end. "Don't forget, we need to stop and get hamburger buns and charcoal for your dad before we get home," Becky reminded him.

“I am so ready to eat," he said, as they pulled into the Kroger parking lot.

"Wanna wait here while I go in?"

"Nah, it's too damn hot out here. I'll go in with you," she said as she placed the amber sphere up on the dashboard.

When they got back to the car, Becky climbed in first and put the keys in the ignition to crank the AC while Stewart heaved the bag of charcoal into the back of the Explorer.

"Gross!" he heard Becky exclaim, as she pulled her hand away from the sticky, yellow mess now puddled up on the dashboard. "It melted!"

Stewart climbed into the driver's seat and laughed as Becky grimaced in disgust. "Eww, I knew it could be melted, but who would have thought it was hot enough here to do it?"

"Let me have your towel," Becky asked.

"My towel? What if it doesn't wash out? How about my old t-shirt in the back?"

"That old dipstick rag? No, thanks!"

"Alright, okay...can't tell me I'm not a gentleman," he said, smiling, as he started to hand her his favorite blue-and-yellow beach towel. "But wait...hang on a second."

"Come on! This is sticky. I wanna get it off my hand."

"Do you think it tastes like anything? I mean, when it's melted, it looks kind of like honey."

"You wanna know what it tastes like?"

"Yeah!"

"I'm not gonna taste it, you taste it!"

"Well, it was just tree sap at one time, right?" Stewart affirmed, as he reached over and trailed his finger through the gooey mess." He paused for a second and then shrugged with abandon as he brought his finger to his lips and licked off the warm, melted amber. "Hmm, not bad. Kind of buttery and a bit sweet."

Becky watched him with disbelief as he smacked his lips and swallowed the
residue. "Um, was it a bit chunky also," she asked, as she looked down at the remaining amber on her palm.

"Chunky? Why would it be chunky?"

"Well, I did have the seed in my hand a second ago. But now it's gone."

"Oops, I hope it wasn't poisonous or anything."

Little did Stewart know that the fossilized seed had been carried from the Mediterranean and along the tropical currents from the African coast to the Gulf of Mexico. The amber was once sap from the tree of knowledge. And the seed? The seed was all that remained of the forbidden fruit that Adam and Eve had eaten before being banished from the Garden of Eden.

My instructor said that the last paragraph was sort of a rough transition. I tend to agree. I just wrote it that way with a semi-conclusion that was soft enough to let you know what they got themselves into, but open enough to let me do a sequel. Since we have to write two short stories for the class, I figured I'd do mine in two parts.

Now I just have to bring out the big guns and get to the nitty-gritty of what happens now that Stewart has consumed the seed from the forbidden fruit.

Whatcha think, gang?

Do they get thrown out into the darkness? Wearing skins, and bewailing their misdeeds?

Stay tuned, folks...same Eve-time, same Eve-channel. And watch for snakes. :larrow:
