Accused Killers Using 'Matrix' Defense

#1 Postby j » Mon May 19, 2003 11:57 am

Accused killers around the country are reportedly claiming that they thought they were living inside "The Matrix."

The Washington Post reports that the February shotgun slayings of a suburban Sunday school superintendent and her husband are being blamed on the 1999 film, whose sequel was the weekend's top-grossing movie.

The newspaper reports that the lawyer for Josh Cooke of Oakton, Va., claims that he killed his parents and then calmly called police because he was obsessed with the idea that all of life is a computer-generated fantasy.

One of the Washington sniper suspects -- 18-year-old Lee Malvo -- also reportedly wrote in jail that people should free their minds from the Matrix.

And the Post says accused killers in Ohio and California who used the "Matrix" defense have been found not guilty by reason of insanity.
