one last poke at the Dixie Chicks

#1 Postby j » Thu May 22, 2003 8:57 am

It took 3 hours last night at the ACM awards, but they finally got what was coming to them......a MAJOR snub from their music peers on NATIONAL TV!!!

In case you didn't see it...this is my observations:

First off....during commercial breaks, the network continually promoted what was to come, with comments like, "Stay tuned to see what the "Dixie Chicks will say." Guess what...they weren't even there, but conveniantly were hooked up via sattelite live from a concert in none other than Texas! They didn't say anything..they just played a rather un-impressive song. What a coincidence that they were scheduled to play in Texas on the night of the ACM awards. NOT!!

Anyway...to the best part. The most heralded award at these awards is considered (at least amongst the artsists) to be Entertainer of the Year. To no surprise the Dixie Chicks were amongst the nominees. Well....this had to have been scripted between Reba and Vince Gill, because she called him up to "help" her present the award. I knew something was up. As he announced the nominees...when it was time to say The Dixie Chicks...he MUFFLED it...I mean he really intentionally slobbered it, and was accompanied by a chorus of boos from his peers. They were also booed two other times as they were up for a total of 3 awards, but this is the one that sent the clearest message.

What a moment...a clear and loud message sent to the Dixie Chicks. Some will say it was just a light hearted joke, given Vince Gill's sense of humor. I think not.

The winner...Toby Keith....a great choice considering his stance in this War effort, and his great tribute song to the troops.

My personal choice for best live performance of the night: Wynonna! a great 4 piece acoustic number.

Did you notice the t-shirt Natalie was wearing. It read FUTK. Country radio here is saying it was meant for Toby Keith. IMO, Natalie is "trash bucket". She is a trouble making _itch. But that's ok, cause she will get her day, sooner than she thinks. When your own peers turn against you, you're in trouble and after last night I would say they are in trouble, (career wise).

I have absolutely no respect for the Dixie Chicks anymore...and am ashamed I defended them on this forum a few weeks ago. That t-shirt last night was disgusting; plus the fact they were cowards -- if you say something contraversial and want my respect, AT LEAST have the guts to show up and perform in person...tell Toby Keith what you think to his face...not act like a spoiled six year old from over 1200 miles away.

I was honestly hoping they would be there live, and offer a humble apology to President Bush and the American people....but that was obviously to much to hope for. I now know what they are....and it's not good.

I've been a #1 fan of Alan Jackson and Trisha Yearwood for well over a decade, but if they behaved as Natalie Maines has the past few months...I'd burn every CD and tape I own of theirs...to a crisp :grrr: :grrr:

I'll buy one of those shirts.

The chicks are on a well earned downhill slide.

Hmmph. Seems like Natalie's "Oh, I'm so sorry" spiel was only to get people off her back. She's playing dirty, and she isn't the only one that know's how.

It seems a whole lot of people have a whole lot to say about the Ditzy Twits.

I've heard it all now. This is how her supporters are trying to spin her tasteless shirt:

F.U.T.K
forgiveness, understanding, tolerance, knowledge

They are claiming that its the logo for a new clothing line due to come out.
How pathetic.

If the initials stand for what we all know they stand for, perhaps she should have asked herself...."maybe I shouldn't wear this...poeple might take it the wrong way, and I might offend somebody."

Yeah right....just like she worried about posing nude on Entertainment's cover.

Hmm, she's married to an Arab?

They also said that she is trailer park, white trash, but that doesn't make her a bad person (I know, I come from a similar background, and I ain't half bad. :) )

I just think if we ignore her she will either fade away or get the picture.

I guess we can't expect her to bad mouth Muslims if she is married to one, though.

I think taking the high road would've served them alot better. I don't know why Natalie would've worn a shirt that even sugggested what Toby could've done with himself. Plus, they should've been there at the awards ceremony. At any rate, it seems like their true colors are coming out. Sure, they are still entitled to there opinion but have some class!

Steph....I don't think it's anything to be surprised at that they were in fact NOT present. Tour dates are set way ahead of time, and every other artist there knew when the ACM awards were scheduled for. I contend they purposefully set this whole thing up...satellite feed (from Texas of all places), the shirt, meant as a cheap shot at Toby Keith because God forbid, he supported our troops with more than mere weasle words. His support has been tangible. His song was macho..kick them in the ass... go get 'em America.....but guess what Chicks?? That's how most of America felt after being slaughtered on 911. His song exemplified the true American spirit, and the words were those of most Americans. Angry Americans that is. Go home Natalie and cry on your Hubby's shoulder. He is the only one that cares, but no surprise there either.
