Schooooooool's OUT--FOR--SUMMER!

#1 Postby OtherHD » Fri May 23, 2003 3:02 pm

Woohoo! I'm exempt from all of my finals, which means I got out of school today!! That's a week earlier than the "regular" folks! So hard to believe it's been a year already! I'm so psyched about FINALLY getting to sleep in...without the consequences.

I never heard of such a think as being exempt from finals.

Have a fun and productive summer (for me, that last phrase is an oxymoron ;))

I have yet one more week, including memorial day, thanks to the snow and ice this winter.

The way it was at our highschool only seniors could be exempt. They could be exempt from a certain class' exam if they had... An A and 3 or less absences...a B and 2 or less absences...or a C and 1 or less absences. Basically unless they want to improve their grade then they can take it but if they don't want the exam to hurt their grade they can fit those requirements to save themselves.

That's the way HD's school does it, according to him in chat tonight. That last option isn't an option though.

Strange, for lack of a better word, way of doing it. An exam is usually mandatory no matter what. Oh well. :)

At my high school, exams were MANDATORY! You had to take them, it didn't matter your grade.

Summer is now upon you...congrats. my little brother has til June 6th (i think)

Hi all - just thought I'd give you the flip side of this topic. Some mom's are glad school's out for summer too - like me!!! Don't listen to any complaining adults you might hear out there. This mom loves it when my girls are home again.....one has 8 days to go, the other 7. Won't be long in my house until we can actually sleep in again. We all get up at 5:45 now. That's brutal, but we somehow manage. Mostly I'm looking forward to sleeping in til 7 and the girls having no homework!!!

Bring on summer.......enjoy your summer Storm2K Students! You deserve it!

Long Live Alice Cooper. I wonder if this kid knows who Cooper is?

Toalie - LOL! Yup, thought of that song when I saw this thread...

And I want to know who ever thought it was a good idea for school to start at 7:20? I'd like to have a talk with that person.......we were getting up at 5:15 for a while there this past fall. Then we got into a routine. 5:45 works fine now. My girls have always had breakfast so that has to be a priority. I'm the same way, have to eat something in the am (bagel, cereal, etc.). But 7:20? I've asked Nina if she's awake then.....she said there are kids that routinely sleep thru the first mod. I believe it.

When we're on break and get to sleep until even 7, I'd love 8, we feel somewhat human again. LOL Oh well, what can you do? I've heard the reason the Middle and HS'ers out here start so early is so the bus drivers can bus them and then Elem kids all before 10 a.m. And then a few hours later, do it all over again. A good way to utilize bus drivers, and the busses.

It will be all over with soon.

FYI...Alice Cooper lives here in Phoenix. He has a restaurant downtown called Cooperstown. So, in his own words...

No more pencils, no more books
No more teacher`s dirty looks
Out for summer, out til fall
We might not go back at all

School`s out forever
School`s out for summer
School`s out with fever
School`s out completely

As a teacher for ten years, I used to be just as enthused as most of you when school got out! When my youngest son was born in April, I finished school in May, and was a stay-at-home dad for the summer that year!

I will say, though, that as my boys got into their college years...summer vacations were more of a worry than a blessing. Nights without coming home. Worry worry worry!

Have a nice summer all of you students. You've earned a break!
