Elephant Joke--somewhat risque

#1 Postby StormChasr » Tue May 24, 2005 10:39 pm

Q. What did the elephant say to the nude man?

A: Cute, but can you breathe through it?

You know, I haven't been online much lately. Computer problems. But I've been able to log on some, enough to know our usual jokes have taken a turn for the worse around here. Where have have all our usual men don't understand women type jokes? Or vice versa...instead we've sunk to a new low it seems.

Sorry David, but I'm starting to find these sexual-type jokes offensive. We have many young members here. And the mom in me is coming out. I know, I can easily just ignore a topic like this. I just feel the need to speak up.

Thanks.

Sorry to have offended you. I thought it was fairly innocuous, but if it offends, I will not post those anymore.

A warning is a good idea....I've just noticed a downward trend of late, with joke material. Maybe it's just me, but they were starting to become offensive. Or numerous. I can hear many a dirty joke but somehow when they're displayed in message board format, on a family friendly site, it just doesn't sit well with me.

Point is there are certain people on this board can post jokes that are very questionable and nothings said. However, if your not in the "click" you will either receive no responses, or a complaint.

I dont think the comment is fair to the staff here. All of them have lives outside of storm2k ( believe it or not) and they cannot be here 24/7 or read every post. They do try though. I do agree that some of the material here has gotten a bit too intense for our younger members. Obviously the staff is aware of this and steps will be taken to correct the situation. Everyone here is treated fairly...mods, people in the "clique" as you say, and all the other members. No one is above the rules.

I was not talking about the staff. I was referring to some members.

My point is the "Younger Members" will hear a lot worse than that by simply turning on the radio. You should here some of the stuff they talk about on my way home from work in the Mornings.

The staff here has NO control over whats heard on the radio. They do have control over this board. what kind of analogy was that?

Sure. But this board has rules and they apply to everyone. We may miss some things, but any member can always PM a mod with what they find offensive. No special treatment is given to anyone in the "clique", whoever that is. In some cases, maybe a simple warning about the content would be fine, like Brent mentioned, and Stormchasr obliged. Other times, it may need to be removed.

Hey maybe it's me that is wrong. I will back off. I just didn't realize that some of the Members was so delicate. Again, this is just my opinion and I will shut up now. Thanks for listening.

My question would be:

1. Was it obscene? NO, as I would not do that
2. Was it so lurid as to entice the younger members into wild fantasies? hardly
3. Was it offensive to a group of people, or their way of life. REALLY now?
4. Was it sexually stimulating, or advocating drugs, alcohol,or violence to women? NO
5. Was it blasphemous? No, am a Christian, so I don't do that.
6. Was it Un-American? hardly--I an a veteran
7. How old are the younger readers here, anyway? probably teenagers, and they'e heard much worse on the school bus. If they're younger, parents SHOULD not let young children surf on the net, except to gain information. That is parental duty.
8. Am I in a "click?" Hardly--I speak my mind, and have been occasional censored, and take that like a man--after all, every place has rules.

So, what is the big hoopla? Lately, it has been kinda nice here, as many have started to get quite close, and the humor has loosened up a fair bit (WITHOUT BEING OVERTLY VULGAR OR OBSCENE)--I think that is wonderful, and one of the major strenghts of this board--PEOPLE LIKE EACH OTHER. Frankly, the moderators are doing a wonderful job here--if it does get out of hand, they very politely, and I may add VERY POLITELY back things off, to an appropriate level.

I don't wish to offend anybody, so I will be more thoughtful of my postings in the furure...sorry for offending anybody, but a conception of how the real world actually is can often be appropriate. We don't advocate violence, gratuitous sex, or meanness to one another here.

Stormchasr I don't think it was this particular joke but the pattern of more and more off-color jokes. If this joke was at issue then it woiuld probably have been moved by a moderator. As to your point about the real-world so to speak, we do try and set an example of how the real-world could be if people were a little more civil to one another not how it is now. :-)

Believe me, I respect you termemdously for that. Ihave had PM conversations with the moderators in/re this exact issue, and have found everybody to be intelligent and reasonable. So, whatever guidelines are in effect, I shall happily follow them. :)

there have been much more risque jokes than that on here. i found it to be almost completely innocuous.

i find somewhat of a double standard when a large contingency of folks can go on and on about Desperate Housewives and then a mild joke like this is in question. Talk about offensive!!!
