Strangest pet behavior?
What is your pet's strangest behavior to date?
My Sheltie, Lucy, will come up to my desk and stand there and make this weird noise. She's been outside, she's had her treat, she's got food and water and has been loved up, but she keeps doing this. It drives me CRAZY. Almost as crazy as those screaming little urchins next door make me.
My schnauzer will clack his teeth really fast for no apparent reason. it's almost like he's laughing but you hear this clicking noise and he's doing it. very strange dog.
any strange anecdotes to share?

My persian cat growing up, used to sit like a person. On his rear, with his back paws all stretched out. And his front paws lying on his belly. Against the wall or in a corner. But never a chair. When he fell asleep like this, he began slowly sliding sideways. Then all of a sudden he'd wake up, cracking us all up once again. I have a picture of Duffy doing this but it's so old. Not on our computer.
Our dog Hope talks to us, late at night. Usually under our coffee table, for some odd reason. She crawls under it and starts 'talking'. She has to start it with my husband too, not me. As if to ask - now why do YOU get to be the Alpha dog? LOL It's just a series of grunts, moans, groans, that can go on for 5 to 10 minutes. Once I swear I was ready to wet my pants, I was laughing so hard. And of course each time we say we need this on tape.
She hasn't talked in a long time - we did buy a new coffee table with a shelf 6 inches off the floor. As soon as my husband saw that he said - oh no, Hope won't talk anymore.

Alicia - Hope looks so much like Duffy - same color fur, almost same color eyes, similar devotion for me. Both follow(ed) me all over the place, while in the shower, while on the computer, while making dinner. My family jokes they can always find me, if they see Hope nearby. Duffy would sit in my living room window next to the screen meowing for me to come home, if I was outside with friends. My friends thought that so odd - Mary, your cat is meowing for you, AGAIN.
I've looked deep into Hope's eyes and asked her if she is Duffy.
That is precisely when my family thinks I am just nuts!

Tommy, our box turtle, has a FOOT FETISH! This is the first year Tom's ever exhibited this behavior.
When we're out on the patio around the pool and he's out of his pen, he'll make a beeline for bare feet. He first starts by bumping the arch with his head; then he'll begin "digging" at the arch and move around to clawing and pushing between the toes (ouch!). Finally, he'll either climb up on the instep and/or begin actually biting the toe tips (double ouch -- his "beak" is sharp!). First I thought my polished toenails were intriguing to him, but he's attracted to everyone's toes, polished or not.
P.S. Let's skip the too-easy replies about foot odor....

Sounds like she's a domina..., uh, the dominate one!

Dee Bee - we used to collect box turtles as pets when I was little. We used to make pens in our backyard for them. Of course, they would escape after a while. I never heard of one being a toe nibbler! Sounds like you have him for life!

Bill!!! Is that all you can come up with? I was expecting something hilarious from Annabelle, she being the 'ho that she is.....LOL
Think, that dog has to have a quirky habit.....

When I whistle, the dog doesn't even notice, but the cats both come running! Hmmm, go figure?

I wouldn't call it "strange", but somewhat humorous!
My golden retriever sure does prove that the breed is intelligent. Sometimes she will play hard to get when outside. Now I understand she wants to play ball, but I have been doing it the last hour or so. I am tired, but it appears that she will wait for more. She will sit in the grass like a nice "girl", one of her front legs over the other and just STARE at me or another family member. She implies: "I ain't coming in until you play more ball."
At rare times, she will get extremely worked up and RAN FAST around the house, jumping on and off of furniture very quickly. If you are in her way, she will act like she will run directly into you, but at the last second veer around you!
In addition to the typicaly happy/sad facial expressions, she also has a "lovely" way of showing frustration/concern. Her mouth will sometimes develop into a smirk of some sort. She has had those since like the first year (she will be Five in October).

Our dalmation "grins" at us and especially me when she comes to greet us at the door when we are arriving home.
The other thing is her unending gaseous emmissions!! She lays on the floor and invariably we will hear a pfft or a toot and she will jump up and run to somewhere else to lay down. Sometimes there is the emission, a yelp and the jump to move.

I love all of these. Each pet has his/her own little quirk. Gotta lovem - well maybe not the gaseous emissions from David's dalmation!!
Ed, it must be a Pennsylvania thing. My dog and both cats have been neutered but my dog "humps" my cat all the time. He's very particular - he doen't bother both cats he has his favorite and he doesn't experiment with legs either.

My dog has an old rag used as her blanket in her dog bed. She does not like being ignored. And if she feels that she is not in the center of attention, she will make sure that she is. She will drag the rag out of her bed and put it on your foot to get your attention. If you still don't pay any mind, she will put it over her head, like she is a ghost. Start bumping into things because she can't see. And start barking when she can't get it off her head. It is too funny! She used to do it at least once or twice a week. But, ever since she got diagnosed with kidney failure over 2 months ago, she had not done it. I miss it.
