In light of the whole Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes thing, I'm wondering how many here would convert your faith or commit to a faith (if you were otherwise not really religious) for the sake of a relationship.
Apparently, Tom has Katie hooked on Scientology now. I seem to recall reading that John Travolta helped Kirstie Alley convert to it also (not that they were dating).
So, would you convert?

No, I was born and raised Catholic and will always be a Catholic. My mom came from a strong Catholic family. My dad was never baptized and his family were Baptists. But, never went to church. My mom is very religious and she had my dad baptized into the Catholic faith when I was around 9.
My nanny (mom's baby sister) just changed her religion when she got re-married. She is now jehovah witness. The family was upset because they don't agree with their beliefs. But, we still love her and would never turn our backs on her. Because only GOD can judge.

I wouldn't because I don't believe in a supreme deity, and won't pretend to just to have a relationship.
That said, I imagine it happens frequently amongst Christians, changing from one denomination to another. But I bet changes to completely different religions (ie Christian to Muslim, Jewish to Hinbdu) happen much less frequently.

I didn't; Debi is a "born-again" Southern Baptist, and I am an American Anglican (can't call myself "Episcopalian" after the 2002-present rift in the Communion).
Debi and Coppertop are now attending an Assembly of God church here, while I am a member of St. Paul's. We discuss Biblical/eschatological/doctrinal differences daily, and Coppertop benefits from these exchanges.

I'm in same boat as your thinkings. When I met my wife I let her know very soon in are relationship because I knew she came from a very religious family. We have not tried to convert each other or shall we try. But it has made for interesting conversations....My 3 kids we have not pushed them either way. We want them to make up their own decision and not be brain washed by either side.
That said, I also don't down any religion. I do believe religion brings hope and a rule of law. And if people need religion for these reason I'm ok with that. I just believe people should give themselves more credit. To me you control your own path.......

Brian was AG (Assemly of God), and while I did give an AG church a try, I woyld never have become a member...I do not buy into all of their philosophies...
I am Southern Baptsit...Brian has attended S.B. churches with me as well...but he would not join...
We have found Non Denom. the way to go for us...but I would not move my membership from the southern Baptist church...and I would NEVER have become AG to please him....
He's not diehard AG, and is just as happy in the non denom. churches we attend together...
Its a little starnge to not be members of a church as a family though...

Yes and I did!
Not because he asked me too, but because I wanted our family to go to church together as one. I tried the bit with me going to the Southern Baptist Church and taking the kids to Sunday School and then services by myself. They also went with him to CCD and mass. They were allowed to choose what they wanted to do, they both wanted Catholic. I converted at the same time my daughter took her first Communion.
As long as you are worshiping God, it doesn't matter what form the service takes. If you are in a church, you believe in God and you may have differences of some things, to me they are not that big a deal. After talking with a priest many times and him so patiently answering any and all of my questions I went thru classes and learned that Baptist have a lot of misconceptions about Catholics and I have tried to tell my Momma, but she still has questions since she is Hard Shell Southern Baptist. But she is glad we are in church and that we love and worship the Lord, which is all that really matters anyway!
Mary
PS My sister told the other day, I was a better Catholic than I ever was a Baptist...she is so bad
