Police: Child Spends Hours In Hot Day-Care Van

#1 Postby TexasStooge » Sat May 31, 2003 12:29 pm

LANCASTER, Texas -- A young child was hospitalized Friday afternoon after day-care workers forgot the child in a hot van for at least two hours, officials said.

According to investigators, a worker at the Little Dudes and Daisies day care at 914 N. Dallas Ave. discovered the 2-year-old in the van after a field trip.

Officials said the child remained in the van through the day care's afternoon naptime.

Workers reportedly didn't realize the child was missing until they conducted a headcount when the children awoke.

The child was immediately hospitalized with a temperature of 108 degrees, officials said.

Officials at Dallas Children's Medical Center said the child was in very critical condition and suffering from hyperthermia.

This makes me so mad!!! That place should be shut down. You can't make mistakes like that!!!!!! IMO, this is one of those times where you don't get a second chance. They could have killed that child. :grr: :grr: :grr:

I pray that child make a full recovery.

Incompetence, neglect and "unintentional" abuse are more than common in day-care centers all across the fruited plain and elsewhere...but I still believe that the states have the responsibility of policing such centers. Let's not make this just another avenue of Federal intrusion, O'tay?

As to the two "caregivers" in this case...let THEM be sentenced to spend two hours in a closed van every day for a month, then be stripped of their licenses permanently.
