ATTN: all soldier pen pal members

#1 Postby hurricanedude » Mon Jun 20, 2005 11:02 pm

I am not sure who I gave this soldier contact to, I just know it was given to a storm2k member. Please check and see if you were assigned this soldier, If so please note I have to sadly inform you that your soldier was killed in an explosion saturday.
Also for all members, anytime i get news that your soldier has moved location, has been injured, and sadly...even killed I will let you know. Please keep everyone of these guys and girls in prayer.

On Saturday evening, June 11, 2005, Soldiers of 2nd Platoon
Company B 224th Engineer Battalion were attacked by an improvised
explosive device approximately 50 kilometers South of Ar Ramadi.
Specialist Casey Byers lost his life in this attack. Specialist Byers
was a Combat Engineer assigned to Bravo Team 1st Squad 2nd Platoon.
He was the M2 50 Caliber Machine Gunner for his Platoon Leader's
vehicle, and was an Infantryman from the 1st Battalion 168th Infantry
in Northwest Iowa. Specialist Byers volunteered to cross-train as a
Combat Engineer over one year ago so that he could deploy to Operation
Iraqi Freedom III with the 224th Engineer Battalion.

another reminder: As you and your soldier become aquainted you will almost feel as if he or she is part of your family, so news that your soldier has been hurt or killed can be overwhelming!!!! Please dont let this stop you from wanting to get to know your soldier!!! Its a relationship you want believe!!! also there can be long delays in your soldier responding to you for obvious reasons, so dont wait till he/she writes you back to send more cards/gifts. as a rule, if your letter is not returned to you within 2 weeks of mailing, its almost assured your soldier got his letter/gift, Thanks again everyone!!!

I saw the first name Casey and my heart went to my throat. You gave me Casey Allen.

I'll pray for the family of this brave young soldier.

I stopped to say a special prayer for that man's family!! The first thing I said to my new penpal was that I prayed every night for all our brave soldiers, but I wanted him to know that he now had a new friend saying extra prayers just for him!!!

Dude, it's a wonderful thing you've done joining the great community at S2k with such a great project as the soldier-penpal program!! It makes me feel good, and I hope I can make a special someone else feel just a bit better while they are out there protecting my family!!!
