News too good to keep to myself...

#1 Postby streetsoldier » Sat May 31, 2003 5:03 pm

After a three-year slump, my son, "firehead", claimed a 3.734 GPA in his freshman year of high school, and is in the upper 1/5 of his class; he has two medals for achievement in social studies (gold) and mathematics (silver), and won his first of several future letters in Cross-Country this past year. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

He'll always be known as Coppertop to me, but that is one terrific set of accomplishments!

Just as you are proud of him, he is proud of you as well. I remember the time when your back was hurting you so much that you could not sit at the keyboard with Annabelle (the ho).

His started his simple message with a remark like, "I hate to see my dad hurt like this" which spoke volumes of your value to each other.

As a teenager, I'm sure his energies spiral in many directions, but together you have clearly done some wonderful things this year.

For the ten years I was teaching, I used to give "Star Reports"...written acknowledgement for a job well done...to be sent home and shared with parents.

I hereby present a STAR REPORT to Kevin in acknowledgement of all his effort during this school year. May it be a spark that you continue to nurture.

Great great news, you two!

Congrats again!

Bill, that's great news! LoL, I remember when firehead
first found the "View More Emoticons" to the left of the
post area, and, he had a ball with the guns, cannons, tanks
and such! I was laughing away! You have every right to
be proud of him - we're proud of him, too!

Funny thing is, I'm an inveterately "arts-music-theater-English-political science-languages-public service" type, while his mother is a "spreadsheet, sciences, drudgery, statistics out-the-ears" type...and neither of us dare travel in the other's domain.

"firehead", on the other hand, is facile in BOTH worlds; and if he ever realizes just how gifted he is, he'll be "dangerous"! :o

Congratulate Firehead, aka Coppertop for me as well! The neat thing is that once you've tasted success like this, especially a student, it pumps up your confidence 100's of times. You should be proud and brag all you want!!!! :D
