Who shops at Dollar Stores?

#1 Postby coriolis » Sat May 31, 2003 7:00 pm

I for one love our Dollar Stores. Many items real cheap. Name brand laundry detergent $2.99/gallon, vs. $4,$5, or $6 at the grocery store. Canned goods, household goods, etc. Avoid some things. Lots of cheap quality chinese stuff, but with some careful shopping bargains galore.

I like them. Sometimes the things in there are just as good quality as they would be anywhere else.

On rare occasion, I've made a purchase or two at our local Dollar Store, and IF you know what to look for, there are bargains of value to be had...but keep a weather-eye on the quality before laying down the cash.

The Dollar Store is one of my fave places to shop, particularly Dollar Tree where everything is $1. I love going to the store with $10 and getting 10 things from picture frames, to lotion, to cleaning supplies, to wrapping paper, etc. I agree, the quality is not always the best, but sometimes they have name brand stuff. One of my best finds at Dollar Tree was Abba Shampoo, which goes for $15 in salons, and I got it for $1.

It depends on what it is really. Dollar General stores generally carry name brand items. Some stuff is cheap, but if you don't mind why should anyone else. :D

I was just there today...although it is the cheap stuff, but its worth it. Dollar Tree is around my neck of the woods, but the Dollar Store is in Green Bay...so I have a place to shop either way.

My mom loves Dollar stores. But she tends to fall for the junk. I will agree, you can find excellent bargains at Dollar stores on shampoo, detergents, etc. But will you tell that to my Mom?!!! She has given us such goofy things thru the years that it's to the point where my brother just puts it all in a box. Someday he says he'll get it all out and have a laugh. Me? It usually just goes to the Goodwill - I mean how many small knick knacks can I have? Because we now have a Golden, it's ceramic dogs, mugs with dogs, etc. That's just one example. Each time we see a new Dollar store go up, we just about all chime in - Grandma would shop there! You can find really good deals though, so I'm not knocking these stores. If you had received gifts for 10 plus years from Dollar stores you'd be ready to ask for gift certificates by now too!!!! LOL

Does anyone remember PAMIDA? It was there berfore WAL MART, and the dollor stores. That was a fun place to shop. Or how about Shopper City? When I was a kid we use to get in trouble for saying Shopper city 5 times real fast. Try it some time, its fun. As far as the dollor store I can't say i make it in there to often. The closest one for me is 20 miles away

I find that dollar stores seem to have as much stuff a little cheaper then other stores. You are not paying for the advertising so they are a little cheaper.

All three of my girls love the Dollar Tree! If they don't carry fishing or golf equipment I avoid them at all cost! :-)

I get my household cleaning items there - definitely cheaper
than buying them at the grocery stores!

I agree with Ya Breeze, I get all of my cleaning stuff from Dollar General. Why should I pay $3.00 at Wal-mart for pot scrubbers when I can get the same thing for $1.00? A pot scrubber is a pot scrubber!!!

I have never been a knick-knack kinda girl (I call them dust magnets) so I cant attest to the quality of that kind of stuff, but I shall be faithfull to the end about buying me cleaning products at the local Dollar store!

If you can buy laundry soap and dish soap and paper towels cheaper then I'd rather pay less. I will not buy toilet paper or anything like that but ..If they have my brands..it is foolish to pay more..BTW OtherHD when you get your own place you'll get my point!!!

LOL Rainband, yes....being on your own DOES change your mind!

Same as everyone, cleaning supplies, laundry, bath, dish soaps! Our Family Dollar Store carries quite a few name brands, like Coke and Pepsi, it's 1.09 six pack when Safeway, Walmart sit at "$2.49" a sixer!

We've been known to stop in and shop at them. The problem for us...the nearest one is about a half hour away, while Wally's world and Target are practically within yelling distance.

I tend to go to the flea market and pick up things I'd see in the dollar store (kitchen gadgets, for example).

LoL, OtherHD, I don't buy the cheap plastic and resin stuff...
I have this nightmare that, millions of years from now,
future archaeologists are going to hit our layer in the earth's
soil and declare us "the plastic civilization" - it's plastic -
it doesn't biodegrade, and, will still BE there! But, as far
as stuff to clean the humble abode with, 'ya can't beat
the deals!
