U.S. Soldiers Captured By Iranians, Later Released

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. military says four U.S. soldiers and five civilians on two boats were taken captive by Iranians, blindfolded and interrogated.

U.S. Central Command says all but two civilians have been released. The nationalities of the civilians weren't available.



Central Command says four Army soldiers, a civilian Army contractor, two civilian captains and two boat drivers were sailing up a waterway that borders Iran Sunday to pick up Iraqi oil workers when they were taken by force by Iranians.


A spokesman says the Iranians took the group back to their boats and released all of them except the two drivers.

He says the group may have moved into Iranian territorial waters on the way to get the oil workers.
